Community support sought from area organizations

LEWISTOWN — It’s time to get goosier!

Goose Day is fast approaching, and the Juniata River Valley Visitors Bureau is calling on businesses, organizations, churches, neighborhoods and/or individuals in Mifflin and Juniata Counties to show their Goose Day pride in big and small ways.

Getting goosier can be as grand as hosting a Goose Day event to attract tourists, or as simple as handing out the Goose Day legend, giving away goose stickers, requesting the Goose Day postmark at the Lewistown Post Office on Sept. 29, or simply dressing up your porch goose for the holiday.

“Goose Day has become a staple in our community, bringing joy, tradition, and a sense of togetherness to everyone involved,” said Jenny Landis, executive director of the Visitor’s Bureau. “The important thing is to keep Goose Day in front of people and show we are proud of our holiday.”

If you or your group plan to do something to celebrate, let the visitors bureau know by Aug. 22 so your activity can be included on the official Goose Day List, revealed on Sept. 1 on both jrvvisitors.com and the visitors bureau’s social media.

“After Sept. 1, it’s up to you to continue promoting your activity locally, while the visitors bureau will promote the full celebration statewide,” added Landis. “Last year’s Goose Day drew over 7,000 people to Lucky Friday and the Drone Light Show alone, and we know we can make this year even bigger if the whole community gets involved. Host a Goose Day event, offer a special goose-inspired menu item or drink, sell merchandise, hand out the legend, run a contest–or come up with your own creative twist.”

To get on the list or brainstorm ideas, contact the visitors bureau at (717) 248-6713 or info@jrvvisitors.com by Aug. 22.

The official Goose Day List will be revealed on Sept. 1 at jrvvisitors.com.

Starting at $2.99/week.
