Derry Twp. supervisors propose a fitness court
Officials mull Kish Park project
LEWISTOWN — The Derry Township Board of Supervisors Tuesday proposed adding a fitness court to Kishacoquillas Park in the future. The proposal depends on sponsorships to raise funds for the project.
It was stated that the township received a $30,000 grant from NFC to install a fitness court at the park but an additional $170,000 via sponsorships is needed.
The Board voted to adopt Resolution 2025-12 which allocates funds for an Outdoor Fitness Court; this resolution is part of the 2026 National Fitness Court Campaign.
“That project is highly dependent on getting a sponsor for funding the bulk of those costs,” said Kelly Shutes, township manager.
Officials also reviewed proposal requests for the construction of the mini golf course which is anticipated to open in the spring of 2026.
“We have yet to bid out the rough grading and site prep part of the project. That will be bid out within the next couple of weeks,” said Shutes.
“After those bids are received, we will make a decision on awarding bids for the entire Mini Golf construction project.”
Supervisors received one $417,980 quote from Harris Miniature Golf, based in Scranton. The Board tabled this quote for review by architects and staff.
The Harris Miniature Golf quote does not include rough grading, electrical, rough plumbing, and landscaping fees. Those items must be bid out by separate contract, and the Board will advertise in the next couple weeks.
Derry’s Park Manager shared that the Kishacoquillas Park Rehabilitation Project Phase I including updating the restroom and playground is now complete.
The only item pending on that project was installation of security automatic locks on the restroom doors.
This will allow the Township to have the restrooms open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. during regular park hours.
Also during the meeting, the Mifflin County Youth Baseball League received approval to pursue the lease of the current Mifflin County Pony League lease of the three pony league fields at the park.
The Youth Baseball league plans to make improvements to the three fields and offer more play time for their league, including T-Ball and coach pitch ball.
A park use application was also approved
for United Way Day of Caring slated for Sept. 16 and 17.
