MSCD announces no tax increase in budget

LEWISTOWN — The Mifflin County School District Board of Directors announced no tax increase in their 2025-26 budget at Thursday’s Committee of the Whole meeting.

The Board recommended adoption of three tax resolutions at the beginning of their 6:30 p.m. meeting following a personnel related executive session ending at about 6:53 p.m.

Treasurer Melinda Kenepp shared each resolution with the first being that the Mifflin County School District levies a real estate tax of 34.5215 mills for the 2025-26 fiscal year upon the assessed value of all real estate within the District. This levy to be enacted remains at a rate of $34.5215 on each $1,000 of the assessed value of the taxed property.

The second resolution states that the Mifflin County School district levies a tax of $5 on each resident of the District who is over the age of 18.

Kenepp shared the final resolution that the District also levies a resident tax of $5, levies a $10 flat rate local services tax, a 1% real estate transfer tax, and a 1.35% earned income tax.

All taxes levied will be effective July 1, 2025.

Kenepp then explained the 2025 Homestead/Farmstead Exclusion Resolution recommended for approval.

This resolution regards real estate tax assessment reductions authorized for the school year beginning July 1.

According to Kenepp, this tax reduction available to homeowners has increased by $44.04 since last year and has increased $143 altogether in three increases that occurred in the last four years. The reduction available for this school year is $321.57.

The Board also recommended approval of the 2025-26 general fund budget in the amount of $100,751,768.
