HONEY GROVE — Dan and Amanda Esh share a common passion for music. The couple, who met in December 2016, learned of their common interest the first time on a blind date.
It was backstage after a concert that Dan’s band was performing. They called it a blind date, but each knew the other would be attending. “I knew she was going to be showing up,” Dan recalled. “She knew my brother, so she came to meet me, and I was interested in meeting her.”
The two connected and, one year later, were married.
In 2019, the Eshs started performing together, often sitting down to record a simple hymn or gospel song together. To date, they have recorded eight albums and shared more than 50 music videos on social media platforms.
“I love to play, and her passion is writing songs,” Dan said of the duo, known on stage simply as Dan and Amanda.
The couple recently released their eighth CD, “Oceans of Blessings,” which includes five original songs. To date, they have produced 35 original songs for their albums combined.
They also recently performed as one of the headliners at the East Waterford Fourth of July Independence Day Celebration, one of the few times they’ve performed in Juniata County.
Originally from Lancaster County, Dan was raised on a farm and part of a family who loved to sing. He got a harmonica at age 12 and put much of his
musical ambitions into learning how to play. His family eventually moved to Juniata County in 2000.
Over time, Dan has added other instruments to his musical repertoire, playing the guitar and piano as well.
Amanda grew up in northern Idaho. She was also raised in a singing family, carrying on her mother’s legacy. She learned to play the piano at age 12 and later learned how to strum chords on a guitar. Her passion lies within singing and songwriting.
Now, they live in Honey Grove, raising their two daughters and providing hope and encouragement through the songs they sing. They are eternally grateful for the gift of music they have been given.
“As Christians, we draw from the Gospel for sure that way, with praise and worship music,” Dan said. “I enjoy the old classic country-style, with the old pedal steel guitar.
“I’ve gained a lot of inspiration from a lot of what I’ve listened to over the years,” he added. “Both of us kind of connected on the genre of music there.”
The Esh have established quite a strong presence on social media, with a strong following on Facebook and nearly 23,000 YouTube subscribers.
“We didn’t seek it out, but that’s where we got our platform,” Dan said.
