Civitts announces election campaign

Belleville resident to run for local treasurer again

BELLEVILLE — Deb Civitts of Bellville, has announced she is seeking re-election for the office of Mifflin County Treasurer. Civitts has over 20 years’ experience working in the county treasurer’s office.

Civitts obtained an associate degree from South Hills Business School. Upon graduation, she worked in the private sector, setting up and training staff on accounting software for six years prior to starting her work in public accounting at the Mifflin County Treasurer’s Office.

Civitts is a lifelong resident of Mifflin County. She has two children, Kelly, who is married to Rich Strausburg, and Brian Civitts, whose wife is Whitney. She has two grandchildren Nathan and Alyssa Strausburg.

Civitts is involved with the Mifflin County Republican Committee and serves as a committee representative of Brown Township. She was a past Treasurer of the Republican Women of Action, and has also audited for Brown Township.

Civitts has also served on a mission trip to Window Rock, Arizona, was a leader with Pioneer Girls, volunteered at Calvary Christian School and Belleville Mennonite School, helped with Hand of Grace Lewistown and Mount Union, and volunteered with Pa. Youth Ranch.

“The treasurer is ultimately responsible for both the county system and the state system of checks and balances,” Civitts said. “It is more than transferring money from account to account, signing checks and reconciliation bank statements. It is being accountable to assure that deadlines are met. The treasurer’s office also issues dog licenses, hunting licenses, fishing licenses and launch permits. I am knowledgeable and well versed on the rules and regulations of the licenses and permits we sell.

“I believe my complete knowledge of the treasurer’s office and my experience enables me to efficiently and effectively to run the treasurer’s office. Because of my experience, I would not need the four to eight months of training which would save the taxpayers money.

“I do and will continue to do everything in my power to see that the customers of the Mifflin County Treasurer’s Office needs are met and their questions are answered.”

The primary election is May 18.

Starting at $2.99/week.
