Benninghoff, Irvin win re-election to state House

LEWISTOWN — Incumbent Republican state Reps. Kerry Benninghoff and Rich Irvin have both won re-election to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, according to unofficial election results.

In the 171st District, which includes Armagh, Brown, Decatur and Union townships in Mifflin County and a portion of Centre County, Benninghoff earned 23,217 votes while his Democratic challenger Peter Buck won 14,300 votes, according to unofficial election results posted to the Pennsylvania Department of State website.

With 100% of precincts reporting in both Mifflin and Centre counties, and not enough outstanding mail-in and absentee ballots in the two counties remaining for Buck to make up the difference, Benninghoff is the winner, according to unofficial results.

It will be Benninghoff’s 13th term in the state House.

In the 81st District, which includes all of Huntingdon County, Kistler and Newton Hamilton boroughs and Wayne Township in Mifflin County and a portion of Centre County, Irvin earned a total of 22,937 votes while his Democratic challenger Ian Michael Kidd earned 10,217 votes, according to unofficial election results.

With 100% of precincts reporting in all three counties and not enough outstanding mail-in ballots remaining for Kidd to potentially make up the difference, Irvin is the winner, according to unofficial results.

It will be Irvin’s fourth term in the state House.

Both men are elected to two-year terms which will begin in January.
