LEWISTOWN — A 29-year-old man was charged Tuesday with rape of a child after reportedly performing sexual acts with a child over a period of seven years, according to court documents.

Documents indicate that John A. Galbraith, of Lewistown, sexually abused a child from ages 4 to 11 years old. The child told police Galbraith performed various sexual acts on the accuser in the bedroom, bathroom, basement and wooded area at Galbraith’s childhood home. The relative related that Galbraith ended his abuse after the accuser reached puberty, according to court documents.

Galbraith was charged with one felony count rape of a child, one felony count involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child, one felony count aggravated indecent assault of a child under 13 years old and one misdemeanor count indecent assault of a child under 13 years old. Magisterial District Judge Jonathan Reed set bail at $100,000, following a preliminary arraignment on Wednesday. Galbraith was committed to Mifflin County Correctional Facility, unable to post the bail set, and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Feb. 6.
