ServSafe certification accelerated course offered by Penn State Extension in Centre County
STATE COLLEGE — Penn State Extension is offering the “ServSafe Review and Exam,” a one-day recertification course designed for individuals renewing their ServSafe food protection manager certification. The course will be offered April 6 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at State College Municipal Building, 243 S. Allen St. State College.
This accelerated program is appropriate for individuals who have completed the ServSafe course in the past and are looking to recertify. It covers key food safety concepts, including core principles and best practices; safe food purchasing and handling; foodborne microorganisms and allergens; hygiene and sanitation; pest management and facility safety compliance.
The course culminates in an exam that meets the current requirements of the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture Food Employee Certification Act.
Participants who successfully pass the exam with a score of 70% or higher will earn the ServSafe Food Protection Manager certificate. While the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture’s requirements for certified food protection managers are changing, current regulations remain in effect until further notice. Currently, individuals are required to pass a certification exam every five years to maintain compliance.
Upon registration, attendees will receive online access to Penn State Extension study materials. Participants are encouraged to review the ServSafe Manager textbook and allow at least one week of self-study before the course. The textbook may be purchased directly from the National Restaurant Association, though it is not required for those who already own one. Individuals with older editions can review current updates online.
Participants can register for the course for a fee of $100. The registration deadline is April 1.
