DETROIT — Aldrich Potgieter made an 18-foot putt for birdie on the fifth playoff hole, outlasting Max Greyserman to win the Rocket Classic on Sunday. Fireworks postponed to Sunday

Due to the forecast of unsettled weather, including the potential for thunderstorms and heavy downpours on Saturday, June 28, the Juniata River Valley Independence Day Fireworks Display has been rescheduled to its rain date of Sunday, June 29. The Juniata River Valley Chamber of Commerce stated the fireworks show, which is set to begin at 9:30 PM, will still be launched from the field beside the Mifflin County Industrial Development Plaza, providing excellent viewing opportunities for attendees across the area.

Smith named Gatorade Athlete of the Year

On Thursday, Mifflin County's Carter Smith received Pa. Gatorade Athlete of the Year in track and field. Smith claimed a pair of gold medals during the PIAA Track and Field Championships in Shippensburg last month. Last weekend, the junior was the third Pa. runner to win the New Balance Nationals in the last four years. Smith also was named Pa. Track and Field Coaches Association Cross Country Boys Athlete of the Year in 2024.
