You have no doubt heard of Huntingdon County Humane Society, but did you know that we serve both Huntingdon and Mifflin counties? In case you didn't, let me share our story.In the late '60s, Geraldine Simpson was concerned about the welfare of homeless animals in Huntingdon County. Meetings were held in her home, and thanks to Ms. Simpson and her supporters, Huntingdon County Humane Society was incorporated as a non-profit 501(c) 3 in 1978. In 1834, an adventuresome man named Jesse Christman, who lived along the Lackawanna River, decided to go west. He had heard that the grass was much greener in Illinois than it ever was in Pennsylvania.To get there, Christman decided to travel along the brand-new Pennsylvania Canal. River Valley Idol to be selected on Saturday
