Volunteers needed to help working families with tax preparation

HARRISBURG — Volunteers are needed to offer free tax preparation to help working families receive the federal and state tax credits they are eligible for. No previous experience is required and training is provided. Through Money in Your Pocket, a program of United Way of the Capital Region, volunteers will prepare taxes for free for low- to moderate-income working families in Dauphin, Cumberland and Perry counties. Baker introduces legislation to give rural hospitals option to keep care local

HARRISBURG — State Sen. Lisa Baker, R-20, has introduced legislation that would create a state license category for Rural Emergency Hospitals, giving eligible rural hospitals in Pennsylvania another option to maintain emergency and outpatient services. State announces $250M for accelerated road repairs

HARRISBURG — Gov. Josh Shapiro and the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation have announced $250 million in funding for 79 road projects across 44 counties as part of an effort to speed up road repairs statewide. The projects will cover more than 400 miles of paving and other improvements. The funding is part of a larger plan to distribute $775 million from the Motor License Fund over the next 18 months for accelerated repairs to state-owned roads. Thompsontown man charged with DUI MIFFLINTOWN — A Thompsontown man faces charges after Pennsylvania State Police at Lewistown said he was driving under the influence of alcohol Aug. 22. Police said troopers stopped a 2004 Chevrolet S10 for a traffic violation at about 2:05 a.m. on Cedar Springs Road.
