Lions head to Purdue for three-game set
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Penn State baseball team meets Purdue for a three-game Big Ten series this weekend, March 20-22, at Alexander Field. The series begins on Friday at 4 p.m. with a broadcast on Big Ten Network. Saturday’s game is slated for 2 p.m. and Sunday’s game is set for 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday will be streamed on B1G+.
Penn State, led by Mike Gambino, is 5-13 this season. The Nittany Lions took one of three games against Iowa last weekend.
Purdue, coached by Greg Goff, is 13-6 overall and 3-3 in Big Ten play. The Boilermakers won their series at Maryland last weekend and picked up an 11-3 win over Oakland City on Wednesday.

The Nittany Lions won Friday’s game, 11-6, but fell on Saturday and Sunday.
Michael Anderson went 5-of-10 on the weekend, including a double and a homer, four RBI and four runs.
Jesse Jaconski homered and drove in four runs, while Bryce Molinaro and Jack Porter each drove in three runs.
Colin Fitzgerald fired seven strong innings on Friday and struck out seven batters.
Anderson leads Penn State with a .345 average, .513 on-base percentage, 20 hits, eight homers, 22 RBI, 15 runs and 10 hit-by-pitches, while posting a .776 slugging percentage and 10 walks.
Among Big Ten hitters, Anderson sits fourth in homers, slugging percentage and on-base percentage, ninth in RBI and first in hit-by-pitches.
Spencer Barnett and Bryce Molinaro each own four homers this season with Barnett holding a team-high .889 slugging percentage.
Jayden Davis is tied with Anderson for the team-high in hits (20).

Penn State’s 33 wins in 2025 are the second-most in program history, behind only 45 in 2000.
PSU reached the Big Ten Tournament Semifinals in back-to-back years for the first time since 2000-01.
Penn State tallied 30 wins in a season for the first time since 2011, while earning seven series wins and nine winning weekends.
PSU’s 15 Big Ten wins last season are its most since 2012.
The Nittany Lions won three Big Ten road series (at Northwestern, at Minnesota, at Rutgers) in a season for the first time since 2012 (at Iowa, at Minnesota, at Michigan State).
Penn State won at least five Big Ten series in a season (vs. Indiana, at Northwestern, at Minnesota, vs. Purdue, at Rutgers) for the first time since 2012.
PSU had eight Big Ten road wins last season, its most since winning nine Big Ten road games in 2007.
Penn State earned a .500 or better record in Big Ten games in back-to-back seasons for the sixth time in program history (1995-96; 2000-01; 2003-04; 2007-08; 2011-12; 2024-25).
Penn State’s 27 wins in Big Ten play over the last two seasons are its most in a two-year span since 2011-12 (not counting the Big Ten-only schedule in 2021).
PSU was 11-3 in series/weekend openers last season and is 24-10 in series/weekend openers over the last three years.
The Nittany Lions had five players selected in the 2025 MLB Draft: outfielder Paxton Kling (7th round, Rangers), shortstop Ryan Weingartner (8th round, Cardinals), pitcher Ryan DeSanto (12th round, Guardians), pitcher Chase Renner (13th round, Marlins) and third baseman Bryce Molinaro (17th round, Nationals). Molinaro returned for the 2026 season.
