Lions meet Lock Haven, Princeton
UNIVERSITY PARK — The Penn State Nittany Lion field hockey team (6-8, 2-5 B1G) hits the road for two non-conference games this weekend. The Nittany Lions are at Lock Haven (0-14) on Friday, Oct. 24, at 3 p.m. and at Princeton (10-3) on Sunday, Oct. 26, at 12 p.m.
Penn State is coming off split weekend of Big Ten action. The Nittany Lions used a goal from true freshman Olivia Marthins midway through a second overtime period to upset No. 11 Iowa on Friday night 1-0. Two days later, Penn State dropped a tough 3-1 home game to Indiana on Sunday.
Natalie Freeman leads Penn State with 11 points off four goals and three assists. Joji Purdy has nine points off four goals and one assist. Keeper Aby Deverka has 59 saves for a .663 percentage and a 2.01 goals against average. She picked up her second shutout of the year in the 1-0 win over Iowa.
Lock Haven, which hosts Bucknell on Wednesday evening, enters the week with an 0-14 mark. The Bald Eagles lost 4-0 to VCU last Friday in their last outing. Penn State leads the all-time series with its neighbor 20-15-1.
Princeton, which is at Brown on Friday while PSU is at Lock Haven, enters the weekend with a 10-3 overall record. The Tigers beat Cornell (4-0) and Monmouth (6-1) last weekend. Penn State leads the all-time series with the Tigers 28-13-0.
Penn State closes out the regular season next Friday, Oct. 31, by hosting Rutgers at 5 p.m.
