Curve launch four homers in win over RubberDucks

AKRON, OH. – Lonnie White Jr. hit two of Altoona’s four home runs in an 8-7 win on Tuesday afternoon at Akron’s 7 17 Credit Union Park. Altoona jumped all over the RubberDucks in the early stages of Tuesday’s game, sitting through a 1:42 rain delay from the scheduled start time. Facing rehabbing Guardians lefty Tim Herrin, Altoona loaded the bases with one out before he hit his hard pitch limit. Murf Gray stepped up after the pitching change and launched a Grand Slam, his second homer in four games with the Curve and his 25th of the season. Lonnie White Jr. followed him just two ...

Spikes knock off Cutters, 8-5

WILLIAMSPORT– Justin Journette capped a three-homer sixth inning for the State College Spikes with the longest of them all, a 467-foot, two-run shot that was the longest ever hit in MLB Draft League play, as the Spikes defeated the Williamsport Crosscutters, 8-5, on Tuesday night at Journey Bank Ballpark at Historic Bowman Field. Journette, who homered twice in Monday night’s game at the same ballpark, sent his blast almost over the 45-foot-high batter’s eye in dead center field on an 0-1 pitch from Williamsport (7-4 2nd Half) starter Kenney Fabian (0-1). The round-tripper was the ...

The trip to Branson, Missouri is 1,061 miles (from Lewistown). That will rank fifth on the longest road trips Mifflin County has taken. The two longest trips were to Longview, Washington, 2,714 miles. Mifflin County made the trip twice in 2004 and 2018. The other two trips before Branson were in 2021 to Eagle Pass, Texas (1,805 miles) and Williston, North Dakota in 2022 (1,623 miles). —-------- ...

Mifflin County off to World Series

By RAY WILDE Sports correspondent WILLIAMSPORT — It was hard to believe that it could happen two days in a row. But it did. For the second straight day, the Mifflin County 15-16-year-old All-Stars came from behind late in a game to snatch victory away from defeat. On Sunday, in the semifinals, Landon Pecht smashed a bases-loaded triple in the bottom of the seventh to defeat Southern New Jersey (Atlantic Shore), 5-4. Then on Monday evening, Mifflin County scored five runs in the top of the seventh to take home the Mid-Atlantic regional ...

Babe Ruth stars to be honored

By RAY WILDE Sports correspondent LEWISTOWN—When I joined the Belleville Babe Ruth team as a scorekeeper in 1970 (it was my first year) there was a 13-year-old rookie third baseman named Alan Shaffer. Shaffer was a three-time All-Star for the Mifflin County Babe Ruth League and was later a star player for Kishacoquillas High School. Alan (Butch) would have said to me that very first year, “Hey, Ray my grandson someday will help Mifflin County win a regional title and go to a World Series.” I was only 19 at the time and I didn’t ...

Crosscutters nudge Spikes, 13-7

WILLIAMSPORT – Camden Ross smashed the 21st grand slam in State College Spikes history and Justin Journette became the second Spike with two homers in the same game to help trim a 9-0 deficit to 9-7, but the Williamsport Crosscutters held on to take a 13-7 slugfest on Monday night at Journey Bank Ballpark at Historic Bowman Field. After Josh Willits (1-0) shut out the Spikes (5-5 2nd Half) through the first six innings, Journette walloped his third home run of the season, a 362-foot, two-run shot to left field, to put State College on the board. The Spikes put more of a hurt on a ...
