Wildcats storm past Huskies, 17-6

LEWISTOWN — Mifflin County softball dropped to 1-5 on the season after a 17-6 defeat against Mechanicsburg on Wednesday afternoon.
The Wildcats corralled 10 unanswered runs during the final three innings to secure victory.
The Wildcats had 17 hits with one error.
The Lady Huskies posted nine hits with nine errors. They did record five runs in the first stanza and one in the sixth.

TENNIS
Huskies drop Thundering Herd
CARLISLE — Mifflin County swept Carlisle during Wednesday’s tennis showdown, 5-0.
In singles action, Aiden Newlen defeated Herd’s Cooper Williams, 7-5, 6-2. Husky Logan Breneman topped Emin Mulaomerovic, 6-4, 6-0. Husky Mason Kaniecki beat Alastair Mitchell, 6-0, 6-2.
In doubles play, Reese Hine and Luke Foltz beat Herd’s V. Trujillo and R. Durst, 6-1, 6-2. Huskies Morgan Crader and Max Persing topped E. Mustafic and L. Spears, 6-3, 6-2.
SOFTBALL
Wildcats down Indians, 7-2
MILLERSTOWN — Juniata softball was clipped by Greenwood on Wednesday, 7-2.
For the Indians, Sophia Smith and Destiny Yohn each collected an RBI. Smith tallied two hits.
Kamryn Walton had two RBIs for the Wildcats. Jayden Brosius and Becca Markel each posted one ribbie.
BASEBALL
Huskies freeze Wildcats, 6-1
MECHANICSBURG — Mifflin County toppled Mechanicsburg during Wednesday’s baseball action, 6-1.
The Huskies recorded four runs in the third frame. The road squad had eight total hits with two errors.
The Wildcats had six hits with three miscues.
Evan Strohecker had three hits for the victors and Karl Shirey added two RBIs as did Easton Lepley.
Chase Leister and Thad Gerwick each tacked on an RBI.
Pitcher Madden Weaver tossed four innings, gave up one unearned run, five hits, five walks and struck out three batters. Parker Crownover hurled three shutout frames in relief and allowed one hit with one walk and two punchouts.
TRACK
Blackhawks soar past Tigers
DUNCANNON — East Juniata competed at Susquenita on Wednesday during a track and field showdown.
In girls competition, Susquenita beat EJ, 112-33, and St. Joe’s, 127-13. EJ beat the WolfPack, 108-17.
On the boys side, EJ beat St. Joe’s, 110-22. The Blackhawks topped EJ, 102-48, and the WolfPack, 131-11.
EJ’s Ella Feltman ran a 14.75 in the girls 100-meter dash, good for third place as Susquenita’s Molly Eicher placed first at 12.84.
EJ’s Riley Apple placed second during the 400 at 1:05.54 as Blackhawks’ Riley Egresits finished first at 1:01.25.
EJ’s Hannah Zeiders was first in the 1600 at 5:54.22.
In the 300-meter hurdles, EJ’s Briahna Brubaker placed second with a time of 52.30.
EJ’s Wrett Smith ran a 24.60, good for second in the 200-meter dash. Andy Herrera, of Susquenita, placed first at 23.78.
James Hess was second in the 400 at 1:05.69 for the Tigers. Blackhawks’ Tyler Rudy was first at 52.90.
In the 300-meter hurdles, Wrett Smith ran a 43.17, good for first place in the event. He was also second in the 110-meter hurdles at 17.30. Jacob Raudensky placed first at 17.92.

VOLLEYBALL
Huskies split with Herd
CARLISLE — Mifflin County Junior High volleyball traveled to Carlisle Wednesday evening and split with the Thundering Herd.
The seventh grade Huskies team fell in two sets, 25-13 and 25-17. Ava Moyer led the Huskies with three aces. Grace Flood led the group offensively with three kills.
The eighth grade Huskies won in two sets, 25-9 and 25-15. Grayce Napikoski had five kills while Geneva Kelly and Mackenzie Resto each tallied three. Kelly also chipped in four aces while Addyson Marks added three. Sarah Hartsock tallied twelve assists and two aces in the contest.
The Huskies return home next Wednesday to battle Cedar Cliff.
