LEWISTOWN — The Mifflin County girls lacrosse team lost 19-1 to Mechanicsburg Thursday.

It was a tough evening for the Huskies who looked outmatched from the beginning. Seven goals were scored by the Wildcats in the first 3:15 of play before subs were entered in by Mechanicsburg.

“The one thing I tell my girls is I always ask them to do one percent better,” Mifflin County coach Robert Nulton said. “The majority of teams in this league are going to be better than us, and that’s just unfortunate. We have a lot of new girls, I have taught them if they can give me one percent tonight, and they gave me another five to ten percent.”

Seven more goals were scored in the second quarter to give the Wildcats a 14-0 lead at halftime. The question from there on was if the Huskies could avoid a shutout. Mifflin County still played hard and had their chances throughout the game.

“We held our own pretty good at 19-1,” Nulton said. “It’s not the win that I want but it’s the win that I will take. It’s still hard, this game was definitely a hard one. But nonetheless, I’m proud of their hard work and effort tonight. At the end of the day, I know it was hard and they were frustrated. But even with the handicaps that we were dealt tonight, they did a fantastic job and I couldn’t be more proud of them.”

Isabella Snyder was the lone goal scorer for the Huskies as she scored in the fourth quarter to make it 18-1 before the Wildcats got another before the end of the game.

“She is proud of herself, and we are all proud of her too,” Nulton said. “She did fantastic, and I told them when we came off for the half I said look, your goal is to give me one shot, I was like you get one goal tonight, I was like that’s what I am looking for.”

The Huskies (0-6) will play at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Cumberland Valley.

Starting at $2.99/week.
