LEWISTOWN — The Mifflin County girls lacrosse team couldn’t score a goal in their 26-0 loss to Central Dauphin Thursday evening.
It was a tough night for what has been a tough season so far for the Huskies. “This was a hard game, we knew that,” Mifflin County coach Robert Nulton said. “I will say I’m proud that they did one percent better. We are in a league that really we shouldn’t be in, because of the size of our school.”
The Huskies are 0-8 this season. “We can’t be competitive against girls who have been playing since second grade when we have girls who have only been playing for a couple months to 2-4 years,” Nulton said. “I am very proud of my girls tonight. I know it was a hard game for them in many ways. And I am proud of them for keeping their heads up and for giving me their all.”
Central Dauphin scored 10 goals in the first quarter, six in the second, seven in the third and three in the fourth to punctuate the blowout win. No girl for the Huskies could get in the goal column, but Nulton is proud of the goaltending and the effort after the first quarter.
“Sophie Heider did a great job,” Nulton said. “She is a first-year goalie, she did the best she could. Joshlyn Tate went in the second half and had some really good saves for us. We kept the score down a little bit more in the second half. It could have been a lot worse, and it wasn’t.”
Mifflin County will look to get their first win of the season at Lewisburg at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
“I tell them to look for the one percent every game,” Nulton said. “I’d rather lose with these girls than with another team. If we are going to be a losing team this year that’s okay. But there are no other girls I would want to be with doing that.”
