LEWISTOWN — Mifflin County (1-3) hosted the Colts from Cedar Cliff (2-3) in Game 1 of a doubleheader at Capouillez Field, where, after a 6-run third inning from the Colts, the game was out of reach for the Huskies at that point, losing by a final of 7-0 on Monday.
On the mound for the Colts was junior Peyton Price, and he threw five Innings of just two-hit baseball. While in relief of Price, it was senior Jayden Miller who threw just two innings of only one-hit baseball.
It was the bottom of the second inning when Price hit an infield single, then his courtesy runner took second base, and in a full count, Blake Secrest put one into right-center field for a double, scoring the game’s first run. Secrest went 3-for-3 with three RBIs and two doubles in the victory.
Then, in the third Inning, Grant Enders hit an RBI single with one out in the bottom of the third, followed by a double into left-center, scoring Ian Ripple, and making the score 3-0. Secrest in his second at-bat hit a double, this time into left-center field, scoring two more times, now making it 5-0. Finally, Keegan Edwards hit a double to left, scoring another two for the Colts.
Mifflin County head coach Ray Hoppel talked about his team’s play. “We need to stick to the fundamentals… Most of our mistakes are not physical mistakes as much as they are mental mistakes, and that was the difference today.” Along with “Hits bring hits, if we can string them together, we will have better results.” Mifflin County has had six runs across its first four games.
A highlight for the Huskies in this game was pitcher Jude Zook as he went three innings of shutout baseball in relief. Hoppel said about Zook, “He was not a guy we had on our radar, but with this performance today, he’s definitely earned another appearance.”
After the third frame, the scoreboard showed zero more runs across the next four innings, making the final a 7-0 Colts win. Giving Cedar Cliff their first win in 13 days. Cedar Cliff got its second win of the season against the Huskies, improving to (2-3), and the Huskies dropped their third straight, making them (1-3). The next game for the Huskies will be this coming Wednesday at Mechanicsburg, and for the Colts, they will be back home hosting the Trojans from Chambersburg also on Wednesday.
