Mifflin County HOF announces Class of 2026

LEWISTOWN — The Mifflin County Sports Hall of Fame will induct five individuals and one championship team as part of its Class of 2026 during its fifth annual induction ceremony scheduled for Saturday, May 9, at the Birch Hill Event Center in Burnham.

A social hour will begin at 5 p.m., followed by the induction ceremony at 6 p.m.

The Class of 2026 includes Joe Stewart, Holly Loht-Yeager, D. Charles “Charlie” Roselle, Nic Bedelyon, Joe Daubert, the 1986 Chief Logan girls cross country team, along with Ken Whitsel, who will be formally recognized after being unable to attend last year’s ceremony.

The group represents decades of athletic excellence across multiple sports, from state championships and record-setting performances to national and collegiate success.

Stewart, a 2004 Lewistown graduate, was one of the most decorated athletes in school history, earning all-conference honors in football and finishing his basketball career as the program’s all-time leading scorer with 1,520 points. He went on to become a four-year starting tight end at the University of Richmond, where he ranked among the program’s leaders in career touchdown receptions and caught a game-winning touchdown in the 2008 FCS semifinals that helped send the Spiders to a national championship.

Loht-Yeager, a 1982 Chief Logan graduate, established herself as one of the top distance runners in county history. A six-time PIAA All-State performer, she won the 1982 Class AA state title in the 1,600 meters and later competed at the NCAA level for Penn State, qualifying for the national cross country championships multiple times.

Roselle is widely regarded as a pioneer of wrestling in Mifflin County. As an athlete, he became the county’s first district champion, regional champion and PIAA state finalist. He later spent 36 years as a coach, compiling 251 career victories and producing multiple state champions and medalists while helping build the foundation of the county’s wrestling tradition.

Bedelyon, an Indian Valley graduate, was a three-time PIAA medalist before continuing his career at Kent State, where he won 113 matches, became a four-time NCAA qualifier and earned All-American honors twice. He remains one of the most accomplished wrestlers in program history and is currently a coach at the collegiate level.

Daubert won the 1988 PIAA Class AA state championship at heavyweight and later finished as a state runner-up at the AAA level. He compiled a 93-12-1 career record and went on to serve as head coach at Indian Valley.

Whitsel, a 1979 Lewistown graduate, will be formally recognized after missing last year’s ceremony. He was the first state wrestling champion in school history and finished his career with a 103-5 record, including 72 pins. A four-time District 6 champion, he later found success at the national and international levels, earning two AAU national titles and a silver medal at the World Championships. He was inducted into the Pennsylvania Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2025.

The 1986 Chief Logan girls cross country team will also be inducted after capturing the PIAA Class AA state championship under coach Ron Sprecher. The team, known for its depth and pack-running strategy, remains one of the most accomplished squads in county history.

“This class represents the very best of what Mifflin County athletics has produced over generations,” Hall of Fame President Tim Searer said. “From state champions to national competitors to coaches who built programs from the ground up, each of these inductees has left a lasting mark on this community. It’s a group that tells the story of our area’s pride in sports.”

The induction ceremony is open to the public. Tickets are $45 for the general public and $35 for current members. Make checks payable to: MCSHOF, PO Box 989, Lewistown, PA, or purchase online at www.mcsportshof.com.
