LEWISTOWN — Mifflin County boys tennis opened their regular season against Gettysburg on Monday and earned a 5-0 win.

Mifflin County was led by seniors Reese Hine and Aiden Newlen in the singles matches. Both put up stellar performances as Hine would find himself in a close match with Peter Page as it came down to the final set where Hine would find himself on the winning end of things.

Newlen was strong in the singles department and doubles department. In the doubles, Newlen would be paired up with Logan Breneman where the pair of Huskies would also find themselves on the right side of things earning an 8-2 win.

Husky Aiden Newlen said, “I think I just have to take a much easier approach with some of my high balls that I tried to rip today and be more poised and stop trying to rip every ball. I think my serve really helped today. I mean just ace after ace which really ruins somebody because they don’t get a ball in and I was just winning point after point.”

Gettysburg showed grit but came up on the wrong end of things with Page being a key component of the Warriors success.

Huskies coach Jeff Mazurek said, “Yeah I mean top to bottom all the way down the lineup we had really good sound tennis. It wasn’t reckless it was very consistent. I think our guys showed a lot of ability to commit to the point and make sure they’re getting the ball back, not forcing the ball. We always stress placement over power and I thought they really did a great job and I think that’s contributed to their hard work.”

Mifflin County also got good doubles performances from Morgan Crader and Luke Foltz in their win.

Mifflin County will be back on the courts a day earlier than expected after the game was moved to Wednesday due to predicted inclement weather on Thursday. The Huskies will square off against Central Dauphin East on the road.
