ELIZABETHTOWN — The Juniata Indians competed at the Baguba Brawl, held at Elizabethtown High School, on Saturday and brought home plenty of hardware.

Madison Bryner took top honors at 124 pounds, while Katelynn Krepps was second at 235 and Brea Beward and Jordana Steffen each finished fourth at 130 and 136.

Overall, Juniata placed seventh out of 23 teams with 90 points. Central Dauphin won the brawl with 212 points, with Upper Dauphin (152), Boiling Springs (118.5), South Western (114) and Spring Grove rounding out the top five.

The Indians host the Juniata Duals on Sunday, Jan. 4.

Mustangs tripped up

NEWPORT — Landon Zaring scored a game-high 30 points and host Newport rode a 20-6 third-quarter run to a decisive 62-45 non-conference over Midd-West on Saturday.

D’zani Coley led the Mustangs with 19 points and Chase Shattuck added 14 points. Coley scored five points in the first quarter, including a three, as Midd-West trailed 15-11 early.

Threes by Shattuck and Logan Hollenbach accounted for Midd-West’s six points in the second quarter as Newport maintained a 22-17 lead.

Zaring sprung loose for seven points in the third quarter and Mason Bitting added six as the Buffaloes pulled away. The Midd-West scoring came from Hezekiah Prinsloo, Coley and Shattuck.

Coley pumped in 12 in the final stanza, but the Mustangs only outscored Newport by a 22-20 margin. Shattuck added eight points. Zaring responded with seven and John Mayeresky with six of his 12 points in the fourth.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Tigers tripped up at Forbes Road

WATERFALL — Lela Revercomb scored 14 points and Sydney Gelvin added 13 points as host Forbes Road knocked off East Juniata 49-35 in a non-conference game on Saturday.

Madison Snyder drilled a 3-pointer and Kaelyn Walter added a deuce and a foul shot for three points to keep East Juniata (3-4) within 19-8 in the first quarter. Snyder added five points and Landyn Cramer four to account for most of the Tiger offense in the second quarter as the Tigers trailing 30-18 at the half.

In the third quarter, Hayley Cramer’s four points led East Juniata as the Tigers came within 35-28. During the final stanza, Snyder drilled her second trey but the Tigers’ rally fell short.

Cramer finished the game with 12 points to lead the Tigers, while Snyder added 11 and Makalynn Peters seven.

East Juniata hosts Belleville Christian on Saturday.

INDOOR TRACK

Huskies compete at Dickinson

CARLISLE — The Mifflin County Huskies traveled to Carlisle to compete at the Dickinson College Holiday High School Meet on Saturday and came away with several sparkling performances.

Mifflin County’s Taylor Kenepp took top honors with a first-place finish in the 400 with a time of 1:02.17. The Huskies’ Mia Coffey ran a tough race in the 3,200, finishing third at 12:33.58. The girls 4×400 relay team of Libby Cook, Alleigh Caruso, Annie Hartzler and Ava Kratzer finished the day with a second-place finish in 4:34.74.

On the boys side, the Huskies had two second-place finishes, from Hoyt Rodenbaugh in the 1,600 in 4:41.28 and Aiden Scavitti in the 800 at 2:06.58. The Huskies’ Zaiden Dashem ran what Mifflin County head coach Tamara Sechler called “a nice time in his first 3,200,” clocking in at 10:54.45 to earn a fifth-place finish.

The Huskies return to action on Jan. 10 at Penn State’s Kevin Dare Invitational.

BOWLING

Milton bowls over Mifflin County

MILTON — Mifflin County hit the road on Saturday to take on the Milton Panthers. The Huskies started off strong, winning the first game 773-690. Milton responded to win the next game 961-670. The Huskies earned a win in the third game, 739-715; however, Milton went on to win the match, 2,730-2,482. Cole Linn had another big match posting both a high game of 200 and high series of 562.

The Huskies are back on the road today in Lancaster for the Snowroller Showdown.
