Cougars freeze Huskies, 55-48
PALMYRA — Mifflin County fell to Palmyra in boys basketball action on Monday, 55-48.
The Huskies led at the half, but a strong second-half performance by the Cougars was too much to overcome.
It was a balanced scoring night for the Huskies, with Jack Curry scoring 10 points, his fourth consecutive game in double figures.
The JV Huskies lost at the buzzer, falling 50-48 in overtime to the Cougars. Sophomore Dylan Bonson led the way with 28 points. Carson Cherry was also in double figures with 10.
The Huskies drop to 4-5 as they head into the holiday break, returning to the confines of the Dawg Pound as they welcome Midd-West on Dec. 29.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Huskies down Cougars, 55-48
LEWISTOWN — Mifflin County beat Palmyra in girls basketball on Monday, 55-48.
Jayda Kanagy tallied 29 points for the Huskies and Mackenzie Peachey added 18.
In JV play, the Huskies topped Palmyra, 38-29.
Lily Curry had 15 points and Olivia Bedlyon added eight.
Midd-West tops Newport, 38-37
MIDDLEBURG — Emma Wagner dropped 15 points as Midd-West beat Newport in girls hoops on Monday, 38-37.
Julia Boop added nine points for the Mustangs and Izzy Walter posted eight.
Midd-West made 12 of 17 free throws.
After falling behind 14-1, Midd-West used a 13-point second quarter to cut into the Newport lead. Followed by their highest point total all season in the second half, Midd-West scored 21 to get the win.
Greenwood flies by BCS, 44-18
MILLERSTOWN — Greenwood defeated Belleville Christian in girls hoops on Monday, 44-18.
For BCS (2-4, 2-2 ACAA), Katelyn Renno had seven points and Izzy Weaver added five points.
BCS was outscored in the first half, 14-2.
Next, BCS travels to East Juniata on Dec. 30.
