MILL HALL – The King of the Mountain tournament did not ease anyone into the weekend on Friday, and no one expected it to. If you showed up hoping for clean brackets, predictable outcomes, and an orderly march to Saturday, you picked the wrong event.

Mifflin County put two wrestlers into the championship quarterfinals, with 114-pounder Goo Alexander and 139-pounder Jake Knable both advancing after a strong first day. Alexander received a bye in the opening round, then pinned Central York’s Clayton Koontz in 1:23 in the second round. He will face Altoona’s Dom Nardozza in the quarterfinals.

Knable pinned Nico Diaz of State College in 3:42 in the first round, followed by a second-round fall over Altoona’s Brandt Hite in 3:13. Knable meets Bald Eagle Area’s Tanner Guenot on Saturday morning.

At 189 pounds, Reese Christine worked his way into Saturday’s blood round after a strong run through the consolations. Christine pinned Jack Johnson of Bethel Park in 34 seconds to open the day, then lost a 4-0 decision to Bryce Collins of Canon-McMillan. He rebounded with a pin over Logan Rusnock of Northampton in 1:20 and followed with another fall over Alex McLaughlin of Cranberry in 2:34. Christine will wrestle Saturday for a chance to place.

Several other Mifflin County wrestlers recorded early wins before being eliminated in the consolation rounds. At 107, Rocky Johnson opened with a 3-1 decision over Gabe Spagnuolo of Williamsport, then was pinned by Brandon Eisenhour of Montoursville in 2:00. In the consolations, Johnson defeated Michael Nardozza of Altoona, 9-6, before losing by technical fall, 18-2 in four minutes, to Central York’s Cooper Boland.

At 127, Reece Fisher won by technical fall, 19-3 in 2:18, over Dustin Corfield of Shaler in the first round. Top seed Deklan Barr of Altoona pinned Fisher in 1:15 in round two, the Husky sophomore battled back to beat Brody Kunkle of Bethel Park by a 15-3 major decision. Fisher’s tournament ended with a 7-0 loss to Isaac Eldle of Wilson West Lawn.

Carter Soto of Owen J. Roberts pinned Bentley Felmlee at 133 in 1:05 before Felmlee rebounded with a 10-1 major decision over Dustin Goodlin of Greater Latrobe. He was eliminated after a 14-11 decision loss to Joe Emma of Canon-McMillan.

At 145, Paxton Shawver lost a 14-9 decision to Justin Deneen of Chambersburg, recorded an 11-1 major decision over Gavan Garnett of Red Lion before falling 11-7 to Caleb Crawford of Bethel Park.

Layten Bowersox at 152 was pinned by Henry Von Stetten of Manheim Central in 2:58, pinned Blake Dion of Warrior Run in 1:23, and then lost a 13-2 major decision to Luke Garman of Central Mountain.

Brian Albert at 160 won a tight 7-6 decision over Lee Brown of Chestnut Ridge in the first round, then lost to Reagan Millheim of Warrior Run by technical fall, 22-5 in two minutes. Albert’s tournament ended with an 8-0 major decision loss to Josh Caro of General McLane.

At 172, Brayan Aurand advanced by forfeit over Caleb Darpino of Altoona, then was pinned by Gage Wentzel of Montoursville in 55 seconds. Aurand picked up a 5-3 decision over Gabriel Seagraves of Cumberland Valley before falling 14-2 by major decision to Peter Sadchikov of General McLane.

In the upper weights, Jace Bender (215) was pinned by Gavin Kesler of West Allegheny in 4:28, then fell to Brody Hockenberry of Central Mountain in 2:46. At 285, Logan Shank of Burrell pinned Dekker Pietzsch in 4:00. Pietzsch got pinned again by Owen Rush of Canon-McMillan in 4:00 to end his tournament.

Mifflin County finished the first day in 18th place with 48.5 points. The tournament continues Saturday with quarterfinals, consolation rounds, and placement bouts.
