Tigers top Juniata in OT

COCOLAMUS — While the undefeated Susquenita Blackhawks have ruled the roost in the Tri-Valley League girls soccer this season, there is still plenty of jockeying going on behind them.
While the Juniata Indians currently own the second spot behind Susquenita, their arch rival East Juniata inched closer on Saturday with a 3-2 overtime victory.
The Tigers improved to 5-4 in the TVL and 5-7-1 overall, while Juniata dropped to 6-3 and 7-5 overall.
East Juniata scored first in the opening half as Cali Wagner’s strike found the back of the net for an unassisted goal at the 18:20 mark. The game remained a one-goal affair until the 37:20 mark of the second half when Wagner struck again to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead.
Juniata finally found an answer as Mylee Landis scored the Indians’ first goal, taking a pass from Sara Montoya at the 29-minute mark to slice the deficit in half. Sara Montoya then tied the game at 2-2 for the Indians as she converted a feed from Carolyn Heidenreich at the 3-minute mark.
In overtime, Makaylyn Peters tapped in a ball for the game-winner at 3:35.
East Juniata outshot Juniata 10-9 and doubled them up 5-2 in corner kicks.
In goal, Juniata keeper Yaa Serwaa made nine saves, while the Tigers’ Landon Cramer had six stops.
Juniata is at Southern Huntingdon today, while East Juniata goes to Susquenita on Wednesday.
