ALTOONA — Juniata came ready to seal the deal on Thursday night and executed to perfection as the Indians bulldozed their way past West Shamokin for a 5-0 District 6 2A Championship victory at Mansion Park.
Daniel Lopez took an assist from Jackson Shellenberger and drove a shot into the net for Juniata.
Cooper Adamire found Chase Hartland and he dished the ball in between the pipes.
Shellenberger would not be denied as he punished the ball into the net — not once — but twice as both scores were assisted by Adamire.
On Monday, Juniata beat Bald Eagle in a hard-fought game in overtime. Thursday’s game seemed like a breeze for the Indians.
“Heading into the championship game after a game like this, it just gives you more confidence, which you already have,” said Juniata coach Jared Byler after the BEA game. “It gives you momentum. Our guys have found ways to win games. Overtime periods, penalty shots, close games in a back-to-back. So I feel like our guys have that confidence that no matter what the game situation is, there are no bit of nerves that set in, they are just calm, cool and collected.”
The Indians shot the rock 29 times in the victory, compared to the Wolves’ two shots.
The champs also tallied more corner kicks, 11-1.
Juniata would get some help in the ballgame as West Shamokin scored on themselves.
Juniata posted three goals in the opening half and two in the final half.
Juniata moves to 19-3-2 on the season with a trip to the state playoffs upcoming.
Shamokin is now 11-7-1 on the year.
With the D6 title win, the Indians have won 10 straight contests. Their last loss came on Sept. 29 — a 2-1 defeat at the paws of the Halifax Wildcats.
Over these past 10 games, Juniata has allowed only four goals.
Juniata captured last year’s D6 crown with a 3-0 win over Penn Cambria.
