MIFFLINTOWN — Juniata’s football team was hunting its fifth win in a row as Greencastle-Antrim visited on Friday night.

However, the Blue Devils had other ideas as they spoiled the Indians’ home finale, 21-20. The Devils lost three of their previous four games.

With 28.8 seconds left in the contest, Lane Barry found tight end Wyatt Hull for a 13-yard TD pass to make it 20 all. After the PAT was made, Antrim led, 21-20.

Neither team scored in the third stanza. But, Juniata took a 20-14 advantage with about 46 seconds remaining in the opening half as Jason Condo had a 1-yard rushing score. However, the Devils (3-5, 2-4 Mid-Penn Colonial) blocked the PAT.

Other scores included a 60-yard strike from Barry to Blake Reuter for a Devils’ touchdown with four minutes left in the second, tying the game at 14 apiece. Condo also hit Josh Nace for a 22-yard passing score with 4:16 in the second period. It was 14-7 Indians after the made PAT.

What was something Juniata head coach Kurt Condo noticed that’s fixable?

“We as coaches need to manage the clock better, especially in the third and fourth quarters when the defense is getting a bit tired. We can’t rely on our defense as much late in games,” Condo said.

The Juniata leader also discussed his team’s senior group.

“This truly is a special group. They have more than their fair share of accolades next to their names but most importantly they’ve been a really good example to our younger players when it comes to what it takes to be successful,” Condo noted.

Juniata’s Jasper Shepps broke for a 77-yard punt return trip to paydirt, knotting the score at 7 with 1:27 in the first quarter.

Antrim took a 7-0 lead with 6:52 to go in the opening period as Barry tossed a 28-yard TD to Hull.

Next, Juniata (5-3, 4-2 Mid-Penn Capital) travels to Halifax in Week 9. Greencastle heads to Boiling Springs next Friday.

Starting at $2.99/week.
