Week 4 in the books for Central Keystone League

LEWISTOWN — Another week is in the books, and the Kish Indians remain atop the Pee Wee and Midget divisions of the Central Keystone Youth Football League & Cheer League (CKYFCL).

PEE WEES

Kish 41 – Terrace 0

REEDSVILLE — Quay Vogt threw a touchdown pass, hauled in another and returned a punt for a score as the Kish Indians posted their third straight shutout in a 41-0 victory over the visiting Terrace Tigers.

Vogt’s busy day got started when he connected with Bennett Harmon on a 30-yard pitch and catch to put the Indians on the board with 8:10 to play in the opening quarter. Harmon found Vogt on the two-point attempt to build an early 8-0 Kish lead.

Early in the second quarter, the Indians extended their lead with the first of two punt return touchdowns. Jack Wagner fielded a Terrace punt and returned it 50 yards to the end zone to extend the Kish lead to 14-0. Harmon again found Vogt on the two-point attempt to push the lead to 16-0 with 8:25 to play in the first half.

Following a quick Terrace possession, Vogt returned a Terrace punt 43 yards to the house to build a 22-0 Kish lead. Karter Gieza powered in the extra point attempt to propel Kish to a 23-0 lead with seven minutes to play in the second stanza.

Kish rounded out a busy second quarter of scoring when Layton Glick sprinted to the endzone from 24 yards out to push the Indians lead to 29-0 at the half.

Hugh Harmon got on the ledger with a 40-yard touchdown run in the third quarter before Glick scored from long range in the waning moments of the contest to finalize a 41-0 Kish victory.

Emmett Hostetler led the Kish defense with seven tackles, while Vogt and Wagner added five stops each in the win.

Kish is back in action on Sunday, Sept. 28 when it travels to Derry-Decatur for a 1 p.m. affair with the Cyclones. Terrace will look to get back on track on Sunday, Sept. 28 when it visits McVeytown for a 1 p.m. matchup with the Eagles.

Juniata 7 – McVeytown 6 (OT)

PORT ROYAL — After a scoreless regulation period, McVeytown scored in overtime and Juniata took possession and Ryker Stahl punched it in on a quarterback keeper and converted the extra point to propel Juniata to a hard-fought 7-6 victory on Sunday afternoon.

After a defensive slugfest consumed regulation, McVeytown scored to open the overtime session. Stetson Bordell scored on a six-yard scamper to open the extra frame and hand the Eagles a 6-0 advantage.

Stahl responded on the ensuing possession and added the extra point to propel Juniata to the win.

Triton Moist led the McVeytown defense with a game high 10 tackles. Lucas Moist chipped in five stops in the loss.

Juniata returns to action on Sunday, Sept. 28 when it travels to Burnham for a 1 p.m. showdown with the Bulldogs. McVeytown will look to get back on track on Sunday, Sept. 28 when it hosts Terrace. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.

Burnham 39 – Derry-Decatur 0

BURNHAM — The Burnham Bulldogs scored three times in the opening quarter of action and the defense held Derry-Decatur off the scoreboard en route to a 39-0 victory on Sunday afternoon.

Burnham held a 26-0 lead at the intermission and tallied a pair of second half scores to earn its second win of the season.

The Bulldogs are back in action on Sunday, Sept. 28 when they host Juniata. Kickoff against the Little Indians is set for 1 p.m. Derry-Decatur returns to the gridiron on Sunday, Sept. 28 when it hosts undefeated Kish. Start time is set for 1 p.m.

MIDGETS

Kish-North 41 – Terrace 19

REEDSVILLE — Duke Peachey scored three times on offense and notched an interception return for a score as Kish-North remained unbeaten at the midway point of the season behind a 41-19 victory over Terrace on Sunday afternoon.

Terrace deferred the coin toss and Kish-North elected to receive the opening kickoff and the Indians wasted little time in getting on the scoreboard. After a long kick return, Peachey scampered eight yards to the endzone for a touchdown to put Kish-North out in front 6-0 with eight and change to play in the first quarter. Wyatt Hassinger added the extra point to make it 7-0.

Terrace was able to strike on its opening drive when a running back pass found an open Tigers receiver to tie the game at 7-7.

Kish-North moved downfield quickly on its second drive and capped off the drive with a 25-yard Peachey touchdown run around the right side. Hassinger capped the scoring drive off by converting the extra point for a 14-7 Indians lead at the end of the first frame.

The host Indians struck twice more in the second quarter to take a commanding lead into the intermission. Julian Altiery methodically moved the Kish-North offense to the redzone before the drive was capped off by Peachey’s third score of the day to extend the Indians advantage to 20-7.

Terrace attempted to cut into the Kish-North lead before the half but Peachey picked off an errant Tigers pass and weaved his way through the Tigers defenders for a 60-yard interception return touchdown for a 27-7 Kish-North lead at the break.

Terrace came out in the second half and marched downfield before capping off the drive by finding the end zone on a run to cut the deficit to 27-13.

Kish-North struck twice in the fourth quarter on touchdown runs from Altiery and Jasper Snook. Snook added the extra point on the first score while Jase Atherton added the extra point on the second score to finalize the scoring at a 41-19 Kish-North triumph.

Kish-North puts its unblemished record on the line on Wednesday, Sept. 24 when it visits McVeytown for a 5:30 p.m. showdown with the Eagles. Terrace will look to get back on track on Sunday, Sept. 28 when it visits McVeytown. Kickoff against the Eagles is set for 3 p.m.

McVeytown 27 – Juniata 6

PORT ROYAL — Calvin Napikoski scored on a pair of quarterback keepers to lead a balanced McVeytown attack to a 27-6 road victory over the Juniata Little Indians on Sunday afternoon.

Napikoski opened the scoring in the waning moments of the first quarter on a one-yard burst to the endzone to push McVeytown out to a 6-0 lead. The youngster then found Canyan Brown on the two-point attempt to build an 8-0 McVeytown lead with 47 ticks to play in the opening frame.

McVeytown added two scores in the final 25 seconds of the first half to run out to a three-score advantage at the intermission. Alex Weaver barreled 70 yards to the endzone to propel the Eagles to a 14-0 advantage with 25 ticks to play.

On Juniata’s ensuing possession, Bentley Harmon jarred the ball loose from the Juniata ball carrier and Brown pounced on the loose ball to set McVeytown up for the final score of the opening half. Napikoski bolted 50 yards to the endzone with two seconds remaining in the half and Brown added the extra point to propel the Eagles to a 21-0 halftime lead.

Following a back-and-forth defensive struggle to start the third quarter, McVeytown struck once again in the waning seconds of the stanza to build a 27-0 advantage. Liam Bender jaunted five yards for the score to push the Eagles out in front by a 27-0 tally.

Juniata got on the scoreboard in the fourth quarter but it wasn’t enough as McVeydown rolled to a 27-6 victory.

McVeytown returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 24 when it hosts unbeaten Kish-North. Kickoff is set for 5:30 p.m. Juniata is back in action on Sunday, Sept. 28 when it visits Burnham for a 3:00 p.m. showdown with the Bulldogs.

Burnham 25 – Derry-Decatur 6

BURNHAM — Aiden Alexander, Ricky Jenkins and Connor Rose each found the end zone as the Burnham Bulldogs ran away to a 25-6 victory over the visiting Derry-Decatur Cyclones on Sunday afternoon.

Burnham owned a 19-0 halftime lead and added a score in the fourth quarter to earn its fourth win of the year.

Derry-Decatur got on the board in the fourth quarter on an Easton Smith touchdown but it wasn’t enough as the Cyclones dropped their fifth straight contest.

The Bulldogs are back in action on Sunday, Sept. 28 when they host Juniata. Kickoff against the Little Indians is set for 3:00 p.m. Derry-Decatur returns to the gridiron on Wednesday, Sept. 24 when it travels to Reedsville to take on Kish-South. Start time is set for 5:30 p.m.
