FIELD HOCKEY

Seals squeak by Huskies, 1-0

SELINSGROVE — The Mifflin County field hockey team traveled to Selinsgrove for a night game against the Seals on Thursday.

The first two quarters were intense and thrilling as the Huskies (4-10) and Seals fought for a goal. Both teams earned penalty corners and shots on goal, but were unlucky on scoring. At halftime the game was scoreless.

In the third quarter, the battle still remained strong between the two teams. Allison Renninger helped her team out by saving a ball and earning a defensive save. The third quarter remained scoreless up until the last seconds of the third quarter when the Seals snuck a goal in.

During the fourth quarter the Huskies fought to make a comeback. They had some close chances on scoring but remained unsuccessful.

JV Huskies lost, 4-3. Regan Kenepp scored two goals and Adalyn Amspacker scored one.

BOYS SOCCER

Bubblers blank Huskies, 4-0

BOILING SPRINGS — Boiling Springs boys soccer beat Mifflin County on Thursday, 4-0.

Mifflin County assistant coach Todd Peters said, “We were scheduled to start at 4. Instead we sat on the bus for 45 minutes as weather passed, which can make it tough. Once we began the match, we stayed in our lanes but we gave up one after 12 minutes where we didn’t defend a run that we know they like to do, so that was frustrating. They then scored a goal with 8:46 remaining where we slept on a run off, a trap on a throw in. Having some opportunities to go forward were presenting themselves but then we got put on our heels and instead of defending facing up we turned and gave up the third (goal) with 38 seconds left.

“Our second half was better with how we defended and some of the runs we decided to make but in the end we couldn’t generate a goal. They got one more 15 minutes into the second half, but we battled the entire second half. They are a good team, so to hold them to that total is a win. We did have to question some attitudes and that shouldn’t happen and our boys know that. We have to want more for ourselves all match long and contribute a no give up, full 100 percent hustle all night long in order to compete in all matches, not just one like this against a quality squad like Boiling Springs.”

Springs outshot MC, 16-3. Bubblers had more corners, 7-1.

The Huskies got 12 saves compared to Boiling’s three.

JV Huskies lost to Springs, 4-0.
