Timms dominates 58th Annual Tuscarora 50

PORT ROYAL — Four weeks after stunning the sprint car world with a victory in the Knoxville Nationals, Oklahoma teenager Ryan Timms was back in victory lane after another crown jewel event.

This time it wasn’t at a track where he races regularly. This time it was in central Pennsylvania after the 58th running of the Tuscarora 50 at Port Royal Speedway.

Only two other drivers — Hall of Famers Kenny Weld in 1973 and Doug Wolfgang in 1984 and ’85 won the Nationals and the Tuscarora 50 in the same season.

Timms, 19, of Oklahoma City, dominated the final 25 laps winning by 7.265 seconds. He earned $58,000 beating the best from the High Limit Racing Series and the Pennsylvania Posse in the Shane Liebig-owned No. 10.

For both Knoxville and the Tuscarora 50, the third time was the charm for Timms as he didn’t qualify in his first two attempts.

“Me and Shane are a great combination,” Timms said. “He gave me a great racecar. I didn’t know I won by that much. That’s really rare, especially at a crown jewel race.”

His goal was a top 10 finish.

“After the first two nights, I ran 14th and 16th, we slowly got the car better, and me as a driver better, and tonight it all clicked, the car was on point, and I was on point,” Timms said. “This is such an unreal experience. I never thought I’d win either of these two races, let alone in the same year. I’m so grateful.”

In front of a huge crowd, Timms took the lead from Justin Peck following the half-way break restart and never looked back, blowing by slower traffic running the very top of the speedway, much like Anthony Macri. He tempted fate a few times pounding the fence as well, but even that did very little to break his momentum.

“After the first two nights, I realized what I had to do better,” Timms said. “I sat down and watched some film and talked about what I needed to do better. It’s hard to even believe. It was such a huge improvement from Thursday night to now.”

Timms started eighth as Justin Peck and Lucas Wolfe led the field to green. Peck streaked away to a big lead early, but Brent Marks slowed with a flat tire putting the field under caution.

Timms passed Wolfe for fifth spot on the double-file restart. Macri slowed with a blown engine with six laps completed. He was ninth at the time.

Park Price-Miller’s car was rolling nice through the center of the corners as Peck pounded the top. He’d challenge for the lead as they started lapping slower cars.

Meanwhile, Timms and Friday night winner 10th starting Aaron Reutzel swapped third. Timms secured the spot and quickly closed on the leaders. He passed Price-Miller for second as the yellow flew with 25 of 50 laps completed. Crews were given five minutes to make adjustments, which Timms’ crew did very little of.

There was no challenge on the restart as Timms immediately took the lead from Peck and controlled one final restart a few laps later.

From there, he streaked away leading by 4.5-seconds when he started lapping cars. He hit the fence in every corner of the speedway over the final 20 laps, but it didn’t matter as he won by an unheard of 7.265 seconds. Overall, it was his 17th win of 2025.

Peck earned $25,000 for second and Reutzel $10,000 for third. It paid $2,000 to start.

“The engine stumbled on the initial start and every start after that,” Peck said. “We were lucky to hold on. I had to abandon running the top because I was sliding too much and couldn’t hustle the car the way I needed to.”

“Tonight was a struggle,” Reutzel said. “You really had to be on your A-game to run the top like the 10 car was doing. I gave it my all a couple of times and was making speed, but I was on the verge of crashing and couldn’t do it lap after lap. I had to make sure I finished. All-in-all, it was a great weekend.”

Price-Miller finished fourth and Troy Wagaman Jr. raced from 21st to fifth.

Logan Wagner, Danny Dietrich, Chase Dietz, Marks, and Ryan Smith rounded out the top 10.

Dietz was fastest in Group A qualifying at 15.543. Timms was fastest in Group B and 15.723. Peck, Wagner, Wolfe, Price-Miller, Gio Scelzi, and Dietrich won the heat races. Brenham Crouch won the C-main and 2024 Tuscarora 50 Champion Rico Abreu won the B-main.

Friday night, Port Royal’s Lane Snook passed Spike Moore and went onto his fourth limited late model feature win of the season at Port Royal securing the track championship as well. Moore, Jaxton Garman, Brad McGinnis and Andrew Yorder completed the top five. Eric Irvin, Jared Fulkroad, Devin Frey, Maddox Smith and Keith Walls rounded out the top 10.

Justin Whittall, of Vincentown, N.J., clinched his first career Port Royal Speedway sprint car track championship as well Friday night.

Starting at $2.99/week.
