Indians make big strides at TVL meet
COCOLAMUS — In picture perfect running weather, the Juniata cross country team held a TVAA League Meet Tuesday at East Juniata High School.
Both Juniata teams came into the contest leading their respective divisions. Both teams entered with perfect 3-0 records.
Before the meet, the Indians honored its lone senior runner Kade Wagner and recognized the entire junior high and varsity squad. Wagner is the boys team’s second leading runner as he is currently sitting fifth. Teammate Coy Kerstetter stands third in the TVAA.
On the girls side, the Lady Indians hold six of the top 10 places in the league. In the top spot, Juniata is paced by Sylvia Brubaker. Her teammate Carlie Heidenreich sits in second.
“They ran well. We just ran Hershey on Saturday,” said Juniata coach Jeff Miller. “I didn’t have the boys run too hard today. They ran as a pack today. They made a move in the last mile. I was trying to mix it up a little bit and let them have some fun running together like that. We had some good performances all around today, high school and junior high.”
In the varsity girls race, the Indians captured first thanks to Heidenreich who finished with a top time of 21:22.6.
Placing third for Juniata was Hannah Zeiders. Zeiders finished with a time of 23:35.9.
Also finishing in the top 10 was a sixth place finish by Ella Zimmerman. Zimmerman finished with a mark of 25:40.5.
Muscling her way into ninth place was Lady Indian Selena Mayall-Marker with a time of 26.57.
The Juniata boys were led by Josiah Barner who placed third with a time of 18:58.8.
Teammate Kaedmon Wagner placed sixth with a mark of 19:26.8.
David Mayall-Marker placed just outside of the top 10 at 11th place. Mayall-Marker finished with a time of 19:31.5.
Right behind Mayall-Marker was teammates Coy Kerstetter and Joel Hardin as they finished 12th and 13th place with times of 19:34.0 and 19:46.6, respectively.
Luke Weiand finished his afternoon in 22nd posting a finishing time of 22:32.0.
Rounding out the runners on the boys side was John Randolph who finished at 27th with a time of 24:31.5.
As a team, the Juniata girls finished first while the boys placed a close second.
