Mustangs hammer Bluejays, 27-7

BLOOMSBURG — Midd-West opened its football season with eyes on redemption following a down year in 2024 and the Mustangs certainly answered the bell against Central Columbia on Friday by winning, 27-7.

To kick Week 1 off, Kyle Shupp zipped to paydirt from 17 yards out, giving Midd-West (1-0) a 7-0 lead with 5:14 left in the first period. Shupp reached the endzone once more on a five-yard touchdown run, making it 14-0 Mustangs on top with 7:47 remaining in the second quarter.

Central trimmed the deficit with a 46-yard TD pass from Josiah Hosler to Elijah Geedy at the 3:58 mark in the opening half.

Later in the second stanza, the Bluejays (0-1) were driving deep in Midd-West territory, but Hosler’s pass was intercepted by Landon Hartman.

Midd-West got a one-yard touchdown scamper from quarterback Brady Janovich, delivering the Mustangs a 21-7 advantage with 8:28 left in the third period.

Hartman padded the lead with a 20-yard TD carry, handing the visitors a 27-7 advantage with 2:55 remaining on the fourth period clock. The PAT was blocked.

Midd-West flipped the script by notching their first victory of the season in Week 1. Last year, the Mustangs’ first win came in Week 10 against Holy Redeemer (27-13).
