Living Legends race at Port Royal
PORT ROYAL — The 19th Annual Living Legends Dream Race will be presented tonight at Port Royal Speedway with a cool $20,000 going to the sprint car feature winner.
Sunbury’s Mark Smith, the 2005 track champion, and Beavertown’s Barry Camp, a 13-time Port Royal race winner, will be honored. Smith owns 33 career wins at the track. Fans can meet this year’s honorees from 5:15 until 6 during the autograph session.
Recent Dream Race winners include Mike Wagner, Robbie Kendall, Devon Borden, Danny Dietrich, Brent Marks and Anthony Macri.
Port Royal Mayor Dylan Cisney returns to action in the Stewart Smith Racing No. 27S. The same car that Kendall drove to victory in the first part of last year’s race. Kendall is taking some time off from racing after the birth of his child.
Racing starts at 7 with pit gates opening at 4 and general admission at 5.
The late models are also on the racing program.
Justin Whittall leads the sprint car point standings by 125 over five-time track champion Logan Wagner, while Rick Eckert leads the late model standings by 105 over Justin Weaver.
FRIDAY NIGHT RACING RECAP
The sprint cars were in action Friday night at Selinsgrove and Williams Grove Speedways. At Williams Grove, it was 410s and 358 sprints and at Selinsgrove it was twin 20s for the 410 sprints, plus the 305 sprints.
Whittall set quick time at Selinsgrove at 16.340. Danny Dietrich, Austin Bishop, Jake Karklin and Mike Walter completed the top five in qualifying.
Whittall and Karklin won the heat races.
Dietrich was the polesitter of the first feature.
Drew Young, Kenny Heffner and Mike Melair won the 305 sprint heats.
At Williams Grove, TJ Stutts was fastest at 17.286.
Anthony Macri, Troy Wagaman Jr., and Lance Dewease won the heat races.
Ayden Hare, Frankie Herr and Eli Tuckey win the 358 sprint heats
