Eagles sharpen their talons for 2025 slate

HUNTINGDON — With just two wins to their credit last year, Juniata College’s football team enters its third year under head coach Blake Treadwell with hopes of flipping the script on its lack of fortune.
The Eagles haven’t had a winning record since 2013. Their last .500 record was 2014. Juniata also hasn’t won more than two contests in a season since 2017 (3-7).
Juniata’s offense did post about 24 points per game last season, over 400 yards per contest and ran for over 150 yards a game.
However, on defense, the Eagles were gashed for 588 total yards per outing, 51 points per contest and 326 passing yards a game.
The Eagles bring several seniors to the gridiron this season, including defensive lineman Max Locke, defensive back Ethan Shank and running back Joey Menke. Other seniors are receiver Ethan Schroeder, defensive back Dawson Booher, linebacker Aaron Rothermel, offensive linemen Seth Walters, Dylan Shepherd and Carter Sauer. Kicker Alex Mullin, punter Wyatt Buell, d-linemen Cam Irving and Sam Lonstein round out the senior order.
After rushing for 258 yards last year, Ivan Foreman returns for his junior season. Backs Dillon Wakefield and Alex Eaton should get more carries this campaign after getting in on the action last season.
At quarterback, Ethan Eisenberg, Talan Middleton and Crawford Flaherty III are all juniors trying to leave their mark. Eisenberg only posted five pass attempts in 2024.
Nick Rice and Isaiah Huffstutler return to help lead the Juniata receiving corps. Rice tallied over 250 yards and Isaiah added 266 yards with one score.
There were only 10 sacks from the Eagles defense last year. There were eight interceptions with Cole Claycomb, Dawson Booher and Logan Williams each getting two. Juniata did have nine forced fumbles with Ethan Shank getting three of them. Shank also had the most tackles on the team with 99 total (58 solo).
Makih Hunt returns to Juniata for his junior season. The tight end went to Juniata Senior High School. Naiym Francis, a wide receiver, is in his freshman campaign after playing for Mt. Union Area High School. Offensive lineman Carter Sauer enters his senior season with the Eagles. The Middleburg native played for Midd-West during his high school football days.
Altoona native Ian Bennett enters his junior season with the Eagles as their long snapper.
Juniata went 2-8 last season. The Eagles beat Hartwick, 37-30, and Keystone, 43-38. Neither team is on Juniata’s 2025 schedule.
Juniata begins its season at Gettysburg on Sept. 5 at 7 p.m. Then, the Eagles welcome Allegheny to Huntingdon at 1 p.m. on Sept. 13 for their home opener.
Juniata travels to play McDaniel and The College of New Jersey before hosting WestConn on Oct. 4 at 1 p.m.
The Eagles visit Catholic on Oct. 11 and host Susquehanna on Oct. 18 with a 1 p.m. kickoff. Juniata College hits the road to play Wilkes to open their November slate. Juniata’s last two games are at home as Moravian and Lycoming come to town on Nov. 8 and 15, respectively.
