Butch Renninger Memorial today at Port Royal
PORT ROYAL — The 171st Juniata County Fair kicks off today at the
Juniata County Fairgrounds, and a full slate of racing action is
planned at Port Royal Speedway tonight.
It’s the 22nd Annual Butch Renninger Memorial paying $7,333 to win for
the late models and $3,333 for the limited late models. Along with
increased payoffs, plenty of contingency prizes are up for grabs as
well.
Renninger was a three-time late model track champion (’66, ’67 & ’70)
and then ran the speedway concession stands for many years.
Kyle Lee won last year’s race.Gregg Satterlee is a five-time Renninger
Memorial winner.
The 410 sprints are racing as well for $5,000 to win.
It’s the first of five race dates in the next eight days.
Race time is 6 with pit gates and grandstand gates opening at 3.
The 74th Annual Labor Day Classic will be held Monday afternoon with
the rescheduled Lynn Paxton Tribute race for the sprint cars, plus the
four cylinders and an exhibition by the Eastern Museum of Motor
Racing. Infield admission is only $10, and grandstand $15 for Fan
Appreciation Day. Race time is 1. Logan Wagner won the Labor Day
Classic last year.
A two day break follows before the High Limit Sprint Car Series
invades Thursday and Friday night leading up to the 58th Annual
Tuscarora 50 next Saturday night paying $58,000 to win.
Track champions will be decided over the final week of the season.
Justin Whittall, of Vincentown, N.J., leads the sprint car standings
by 165 over five-time champion Logan Wagner. Four point races remain.
Whittall is seeking his first championship.
York’s Rick Eckert leads the late model standings by 120 over Justin
Weaver. Tonight is the final point race. Eckert is seeking his second
championship. It would be a first for Weaver.
Port Royal’s Lane Snook leads the limited late model standings by 170
over Ryan Zook. Snook has three wins in seven features and six top
fives. Both drivers are seeking their first championships. Snook would
join his grandfather and cousin as a Port Royal champion.
The 305’s join the High Limit Series Thursday night. Nick Sweigart
holds a 5 point lead on 2023 champion Logan Spahr.
The limited late models final race is Friday night. The sprint cars
final point race is Friday as the Tuscarora 50 itself is not a points
race.
WILLIAMS GROVE
Williams Grove Speedway was in action Friday night with the John and
Pee Wee Zemaitis tribute race for the sprint cars.
Teenager Cameron Smith set fast time over the 28-car field with a lap
of 17.278. Danny Dietrich, Anthony Macri, Brock Zearfoss and Austin
Bishop completed the top five in qualifying.
Parker Price-Miller, Chase Dietz and point leader Troy Wagaman Jr. won
the heat races.
The USAC East Coast sprints were also racing. Joey Amantea, Christian
Bruno and Ed Aiken won the heat races.
