Biggest races are coming to Port Royal
PORT ROYAL — The 2025 racing season has flown by at Port Royal
Speedway. Although just more than a month remains, some of the season’s biggest races are yet to come.
The speedway is off this coming Saturday night as the focus of the
racing world is on the Knoxville Nationals in south-central Iowa with
many of the area’s top sprint car teams in attendance looking for a
piece of the 1 million in prize money that’s up for grabs.
The local contingent is led by King’s Royal Champion Anthony Macri, of
Dillsburg. Port Royal point leader Justin Whittall, along with Danny
Dietrich, Lucas Wolfe, Brock Zearfoss and Brent Marks are among some
of the other teams in Iowa.
Australian driver James McFadden won the Capitani Classic Sunday night
at Knoxville Raceway over Daison Pursley, Brian Brown, Rico Abreu and
Carson Macedo. Danny Dietrich finished 14th and Anthony Macri raced
from 21st starting spot to 15th. Qualifying for the Nationals begins
Wednesday night.
Port Royal’s next race is Saturday, Aug. 16. It’s the Living Legends
Dream Race with $20,000 going to the sprint car feature winner. Barry
Camp and Mark Smith will be honored.
The super late models are also on the program for the Living Legends
Dream race and it will be their final tune-up before the “Rumble by
the River” sanctioned by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series on
Friday and Saturday Aug. 22 and 23 with the finale paying $50,000 to
win.
After that, it’s onto five races in eight days during the 171st Annual
Juniata County Fair beginning on Aug. 30 with the Butch Renninger
Memorial followed by the Labor Day Classic and then three straight
nights of racing concluding with the58th Annual Tuscarora 50 paying
$58,000 to win for the sprint cars on Saturday night, Sept. 6.
Championships in all four divisions will be decided during this busy
stretch of racing to end the 2025 racing season.
Justin Whittall leads the sprint cars by 120 points over Logan Wagner
seeking his first career track championship.
Rick Eckert leads the late model standings by 105 over Justin Weaver.
Lane Snook leads the limited late model standings by 145 over Ryan Zook.
Nick Sweigart leads the 305 sprint cars standings by only five over Logan Spahr.
