Mifflin County Babe Ruth 13s ready for regional run

OLD BRIDGE, NJ — The Mifflin County Babe Ruth 13-year-old All-Stars are hoping to find some offense as it heads off to the Mid-Atlantic Regionals on Tuesday in Old Bridge, N.J.

Mifflin County plays host Old Bridge at 10 a.m. then plays Sayerwood South, of Southern New Jersey, at 4 p.m.

On Wednesday, Mifflin County plays at 1 p.m. against Pennsylvania state champion Broomall-Newtown. Game four will be against another team from Southern New Jersey on Thursday at 4 p.m. The winner of the Mid-Atlantic Regionals earns a trip to the World Series in Jamestown, N.Y., in August.

In the state tournament in Broomall, Mifflin County scored just 11 runs and had just 15 hits.

The only players with multiple hits are Carter Palm with four and Luke Hale and Cam Kowalczik with two each. Cohen Ritchey had the only extra-base hit, a double, in the opening game against Roxborough.

Needless to say, Mifflin County lived on solid pitching and defense. Mifflin County only committed two errors and turned three double plays in the three games in the state tournament.

Mifflin County used five pitchers with Kaden Peachey, Palm and Wyatt Fultz getting the starts. Fultz threw the most innings, 9.3. He picked up the lone win, allowing three runs on eight hits, striking out six strikeouts and walking six.

The only other pitcher to see the mound twice was Brody Keefer, who threw three innings in relief. He allowed only one hit and no runs, striking out two and walking one. The other pitcher to work in the state tourney was Brayden Herbster, who saw action as a relief pitcher.

“We need to hit the ball more,” said Mifflin County manager Bill Corbin. “Our defense was solid in Broomall and I hope that holds up in the regionals. Our pitching was also very good.”

Corbin now has a 124-57 All-Star record and an overall mark of 783-463.

When Mifflin County plays host Old Bridge, it will be the 142nd different league that Mifflin County has faced. This also will be the 80th different tournament site that Mifflin County has played at, and Mifflin County’s record in New Jersey is 17-11.

Starting at $2.99/week.
