WILLIAMSPORT — Charles County had a hard time doing anything right and Mifflin County took advantage of it for a 21-2 victory on Wednesday. The game was called after four innings due to the15-run rule.

Maryland committed six errors, walked 11 and had 13 wild pitches, which lead to six Mifflin County runs.

Jaden King had a big night with three hits, three RBIs and three runs scored. Wyatt Parkes was also a multiple hitter with two. Karl Shirey had a big night with two hits including a triple. He also scored three runs.

But, the biggest news came on the mound. Liam Shaffer and Cullen Busch combined for a no-hitter. Shaffer pitched the first two innings. He gave up one run, four walks and struck out five. Busch finished the game. He also gave up one run, struck out five and walked three.

It was the league’s 29th no-hitter and fifth in regional play. The last no-hitter came on July 6, 2024, in a 14-year-old state tournament game against Ashland, 18-1. The pitchers were Colton Aumiller and Landon Rhodes.

The last no-hitter in regional play came from Chase Hartung on July 22, 2023, against Centre County 12-2 (15-year-olds). The other regional no-hitters were from Dean Reynolds, 1973, 13-year-olds; Matt Wright and AJ Yoder, 2002, 15-year-olds; AJ Scheffel, 2008, 15-year-olds.

MIFFLIN COUNTY 14,

PRINCE GEORGES COUNTY 9

WILLIAMSPORT — It was a wild start to the Mifflin County-Maryland game on Thursday.

Mifflin County scored 13 of its 14 runs in the first four innings. Meanwhile PGC was doing the same thing as it scored eight of its nine runs in the first three innings.

One thing that helped Mifflin County was the lower end of its lineup. From batters five through 10, Mifflin County produced 10 hits and nine runs. Luke Shawver, the ninth batter, led the Mifflin County attack with three hits. Jude Zook, Jake Knable and Bo Benny each had two hits and Shaffer added one more from the 10th spot.

Benny had a run-producing double in the fourth. Shirey, from his leadoff spot, had two hits including an RBI triple in the seventh.

Shirey started, but was relieved by Zook in the third. Finally with two outs in the third — and the score, 9-8, in favor of Mifflin County — Benny came in and got things calmed down.

Benny got the win as he pitched into the seventh. He gave up only one run and four hits. He struck out one and walked one. His only mistake was a solo homerun to Kaden Brown in the seventh. Shaffer got the last out of the game on a strike out.

From his catcher’s position, Shawver turned in a double play in the fifth. Shawver caught a high popup behind home plate and then tossed the ball to Knable at second for a double play.

“Our bottom half of the line-up really came through today,” said Mifflin County manager Travis Parkes. “Bo really came in and got things settled down. He deserved to get the win.”

Mifflin County started Shirey, who went two innings, and then went to Zook, who pitched into the third.
