’Hawks get important GEFA win

Bowl a tribute to Rodgers’ father

HUNTINGDON — It was billed as the first Robert “Hum” Rodgers Bowl, a fitting tribute to the father of Mifflin County Tomahawks head coach Bryan Rodgers.

The outcome was even more important to the playoff hopes of the Tomahawks in the Great Eastern Football Association standings as Mifflin County needed a win to remain one game behind the defending GEFA champion Moshannon Valley Vikings in the Mountain Conference.

A victory over the winless Indiana County Crusaders would also lock up a playoff spot for the Tomahawks. Check and check.

Mifflin County quarterback Robert Albro threw a pair of touchdown passes – one to Timmy Beck and the other to Jamal Albro – as the Tomahawks pulled out a 20-6 victory over Indiana County to improve to 5-3 on the season. The game was played at Calvary Baptist Church Moshannon Valley outgunned the Bedford County Buffaloes, 76-56.

The Mifflin County win was also dedicated to the memory of Hum Rodgers, “a true fan of local semi-pro football,” Bryan Rodgers said. “It was nice to honor my dad as a long-time fan.”

Cohen Russell also had a pick-six for the Tomahawks against Indiana County (0-8), while Chase Pitts recovered two fumbles.

Mifflin County hosts Bedford County Saturday before heading to Moshannon Valley on June 14 for the season finale.

Starting at $2.99/week.
