Juniata edges Halifax, 12-9

MIFFLINTOWN — Juniata softball rallied twice in a back-and-forth contest with Halifax on Wednesday. The Lady Indians scored six times in the sixth frame to earn a 12-9 win against the Wildcats.

“The top of our order is just seeing the ball so well,” Juniata head coach Craig Bubb said. “They’re hitting line drives, they’re hitting the ball hard… and games like this are a little bit contagious. It gets them going… we have to clean the defense up, but we’ll clean that up.”

After trailing 3-0 through the first two and a half innings, the Indians got a three-run home run from Savannah Marshall over the left-field fence to tie the game at three all.

“It felt pretty good. First home run of the season. Glad to be back,” Marshall said about her moonshot to left field.

Juniata would go up 6-3 after scoring three times in the fifth stanza. Destiny Yohn ripped a two-run double along the line in deep right field.

Halifax (3-7) answered with four runs in the top of the sixth frame, grabbing a 7-6 lead.

In the home half of the sixth inning, Juniata scored six times and took a 12-7 lead. Regan Lowrey scored on a passed ball and Victoria Moore scored a run after drawing a walk earlier in the frame.

“When we get down, we’re able to bring ourselves out of it,” Marshall added about the home win.

Bubb noted that the win is “definitely a win that we needed.”

Juniata (3-4) visits Upper Dauphin today.
