Run to the Lord and rest your fears

Greetings of love, friends. Today, I’m praying things go a little smoother on the farm than yesterday. It’s that time of year...the calves are dropping daily. We had six born just this week. While the cow takes care of her newborn, usually, and all is good...not so much yesterday. We decided that this year, as the calves were born, we would band them immediately, as opposed to waiting til later and not being able to catch them. Beef cows aren’t as people-friendly as our dairy cows were, so catching the calves before they learn to run is easier on old folks...or so we thought. Not ...

All of us are held accountable to the Law of God

I want to write to you today about the doctrine of redemption. It is an important doctrine because it is the heart of the gospel. Why is it so important? Because as long as preachers leave out the issue of sin, the issue of guilt, the issue of eternal damnation, the debt incurred by violating the law of God, then the doctrine of redemption is lost. How can we sing, “Redeemed, how I love to proclaim it; redeemed by the blood of the lamb. Redeemed through his infinite mercy; His child forever I am”, if we don’t know what we are singing about? Today, the modern preacher preaches ...

When your last name is Kelley

When your last name is Kelley, observing St. Patrick’s Day isn’t merely an option; it is a time-honored tradition. After all, isn’t there a wee bit of Irish in all of us on this fun-filled day? It seems everyone seeks ways to connect with and honor their ancestral heritage, and for those of us with Irish roots, this annual occasion provides that opportunity. For as far back as I can remember, my family has marked St. Patrick’s Day in a big way. It all began with my mother, who unfailingly prepared corned beef and cabbage, made a green punch concoction, and bedecked our home ...

Renovations continue at MC library

You’ve probably heard by now that library renovations have started. It’s been very exciting and, surprisingly, not as noisy as I had originally thought it would be. Before I go on any further, this project is supported in part through a grant from the Office of Commonwealth Libraries, PA department of Education, with funds provided from the Keystone Recreation, Park and Conservation Fund. Or, as it is more commonly known, the Keystone Grant. I love sitting in on the meetings between the architect, maintenance and the construction guys. We’re talking about cutting into the ...

March ’24 updates for Juniata County Library

A lot is going on at the library, so we want to make sure to share some updates with you: Mobile hotspots: We received notice recently that the organization loaning us the AT&T and Verizon hotspots will be discontinuing their service. Their next cycle starts in April and the hotspots will stop working sometime between now and then. An alternative: use one of our 31 T-Mobile hotspots. You can check and see if they have service where you will be using it by visiting our website. What is a mobile hotspot? It’s a portable device that provides a Wi-Fi internet connection. It’s ...

Christians are called to trust God

Good morning, dear friends. This morning, I could be tempted to be fearful, with all the talk of the Coronavirus. You, too? Or have you decided that it’s all a joke, with no need to concern yourself? It’s been a few weeks of rocking back and forth between the two opinions, hasn’t it? I believe that whichever way it goes, God knows. He’s gone before us. He sees our dilemma, and He cares deeply for our condition...whatever our condition is. Is that a cop out? I don’t think so. It’s simply the way of the Christian. We are called to be a people different from the world around us. ...
