Happy summer, everyone. This is Memorial Day weekend. The library is closed today, Saturday, as well as Monday. The library will offer a summer reading program for all ages. My daughter Joy messaged me last week to ask me what I wanted for Mother’s Day. Hello from the kitchen! Who doesn’t like pie? My dad’s favorite was the Montgomery pie. I was doing some research on the history of pies and apparently its roots stem from ancient Egypt and Greece. Early history of the Mifflin Co. Library

Several months ago, I was given two books of the board meeting minutes of the library; one dated 1896-1906 and the other dated 1906- 1941. Was I thrilled? You better believe it. We have “lost years” in our library history, from 1895 to 1940. This is what I know for sure: the city of Lewistown had the Apprentice Literary Society which formed in 1842 as well as a public library. The library had a hard time getting itself established.
