‘Tis the season to read some more books

Season’s “Readings” everyone. My wish for everybody is a holiday filled with books. If you are looking for a small way to help the Mifflin County Library this holiday season, there are three ways to do that. The first way to help MCL is to get a library card.

You may not think that having a library card is a big deal, but it is. A library card opens a world of books to you, and sometimes right at your fingertips. With your library card, you can check out and take home any book in our collection. Along with that, your library card opens all of the books that we have in our digital library with the Libby app. Just download the app from your app store (it’s free), enter your library name, Mifflin County Library and type in that library card number and you are set.

Another small way to help the library this holiday season is to come to the library and take a tag off our Christmas tree. Like an angel tree, with a $15 donation, you can help the library purchase new books next year. There is an adult best seller tag. With this tag, you will help the library purchase the latest and greatest bestselling book in 2026. There is a children’s book tag, either a picture book or a children’s chapter book. By choosing one of these tags, you will help fill our children’s library with new books that kids adore. There are also specific “classic books” tags. These are specific titles that we need as part of our New Year’s Resolution to update our classic books. Some of the classics that need to be replaced are Mary Shelley’s “Frankenstein” or “In Cold Blood” by Truman Capote or the classic “The Princess Bride” by William Goldman. There are other classics to choose from. These are just the ones that caught my eye. Each tag is just a $15 donation.

The third way to help the Mifflin County Library is to sign up for our newsletter. A newsletter is something we’ve been wanting to start, hoping to start, asked to start but, you know, it’s hard. Our newsletter will be all digital and will be delivered to your email. If this is something you are interested in receiving, please visit our webpage at www.mifflincountylibrary.org and scroll down to the graphic that says “Newsletter.” Click that and answer the questions. We just need your name and email address and we also need you to agree that we can send you that email. We won’t bog down your inbox with thousands of emails. We’ll only email you once a month, on the first day of each month, with the newsletter.

What’s included in the newsletter, you may be wondering? We will list upcoming events and programs but also give our readers information about Phase 2 renovations. If you’d like to see photos of the work-in-progress, and you don’t have Facebook, then this newsletter is for you. We’ll add photos to the newsletter as the year goes on.

Thank you so much for your continued support of the Mifflin County Library and happy reading.
