Buying Brooklyn Bridge
To the editor:
The Brooklyn Bridge has been sold. To whom? To the American taxpayer!
How did that happen? Our liberal government did the old bait and switch on us. They said we were all going to die from COVID then put us on the hook for $6 trillion to get shots, research and economic relief. Whoops!
What constitutes economic relief? Eliminate rent, pay people not to work, pay businesses who can’t open. Sounds okay to me if it is on a limited basis. We were all blindsided by COVID and some of this funding was necessary. I don’t see how delinquent student loans fit in this picture though.
Now that most everyone knows we will survive and the curtain has fallen we are seeing the reality of what we have been sold — the Brooklyn Bridge. It is a scam on a personal and economic level unseen.
How did student loans become part of COVID relief? We are going to pay the bill of a select few students, to the tune of billions of dollars. CBS News estimated it could be as high as $519 BILLION.
This is a slap in the face and a kick in the pants to every person who paid for a college education. It is even worse for mom’s and dad’s who worked to give their kids a debt-free education. How about the kid who worked two jobs to get through school or the person who served our country and received an education with some help from the GI bill?
Joe Biden and this liberal government have no concept of money, where it comes from or how to spend it fairly. And to think the mom’s and dad’s who already paid for educating their own children now have to pay for every kid who can’t pay their bills.
There are $200 billion in college endowments in the U.S. They range from $40 billion at Harvard down to $50 million at Augsburg University. They do help with scholarships and the like but their mission is to perpetuate the endowment. To me this seems like a much better place to look for student loan help.
Here is a quote from Florida’s governor, Ron DeSantis, on Twitter: “It’s unfair to force a truck driver to pay a loan for someone who got a PhD in gender studies. Taxpayers shouldn’t be footing the bill for student loan relief and Biden’s order isn’t constitutional. If anything, universities handing out worthless degrees should be on the hook.”
I agree, do you?
It seems poor choices by some students have now become the public’s responsibility. They can’t get paid so they can’t pay, we pay. Ask that student what he is doing after college. He might say, I’m going to New York to see the bridge that paid for my degree. At one time it was said, one sucker is born every minute. Joe Biden and liberals made millions in one second.
