Make Mifflin County 2nd Amendment Sanctuary
To the editor:
As a responsible gun owner, I have great concerns over all the attempts that are being made to attack our Second Ammendment rights. If you have your head in the sand to what is going on, or think its some other persons problem to fight don’t complain when when you as a law abiding citizen become a felon by the stroke of some gun-hating politican’s pen.
HB 127 would force Americans to relinquish hundreds of firearm magazines with no compensation. Having a magazine with more than 10 rounds of ammunition will become a crime.
In addition you will be required to register your guns with the federal government.
The plan is to have a registry that all members of the public can access and know what guns you own and where they are stored.
You will also need to pay for a license to own a firearm and pay $800 per year for insurance.
Penalties of at least $50,000 and imprisonment of at least 10 years are on the table if you are caught.
There are other factors too lengthy to mention and it may be best to do your own research.
I think it’s time our commissioners in Mifflin County get on board with what some other counties are doing and make Mifflin County a Second Ammendment Sanctuary. The most recent county to do so was Washington County.
Our county has very large population of responsible gun owners and hunters who would stand behind this decision all the way.
Even if you’re not a gun owner, but value and believe in the Constitution, standing behind this is the right thing to do.
Hunting and guns are part of our history not only in Mifflin County, but the state as well. They are part of the very foundation of what has helped forge and defend our country from evil.
Just one case is the attack on Pearl Harbor. Admiral Yamamoto was a college student at Harvard University before he served the Empire of Japan. When the attack was being planned the intent was to push forward to the U.S. mainland. This idea was reconsidered as Yamamoto reminded his colleagues that many citizens in the U.S. were armed and would fight to defend their freedom and country.
Across the board it appears as though politicians are planning to attack our constitutional rights. These gun laws that are being introduced are clearly infringements on the Second Ammendment.
Our elected officials place a hand the Bible and swear an oath to support and uphold the Constitution. This oath appears to be an empty collection of words that need to be regurgitated in order to get a big paycheck and pursue their personal agendas. They fight for nothing, but personal gain and to retain power for as long as possible.
Whether you like guns or not, we have a right to owns guns, to hunt, target practice, to collect them and to defend our families if a threat should arise.
If you are a gun hater you have a choice to stay away from them and those who appreciate them. You don’t need to know why a person needs an AR-15. They want it because it’s America and our freedom says if we are responsible we can!
The benefit of freedom is not one-sided though. As a gun hater you are free to cower in a corner and allow you or your family to be victimized. Its just one of the many benefits you are entitled to when living in a free nation.
I urge every citizen that still believes in our constitutional rights, every hunter and gun owner to contact our leaders in Harrisburg and Washington, D.C. Tell them to honor their oath to uphold the Constitution and fight for the Second Amendment.
Also, it’s important to contact our county commissioners and remind them who they were elected to serve and we the people of Mifflin County wish to be a Second Amendment Sanctuary as other counties in Pennsylvania have done. Don’t sit back and do nothing and complain later if these unconstitutional gun laws are pushed through.
