Repasz Band, a source of pride for region, right to honor leader
The Repasz Band has a storied history in Williamsport. It was only fitting that the band honored one of the men Saturday who kept those stories going.
More than 80 current and former musicians in the band joined the family, friends and former students of Albert J. Nacinovich to make the event a success. We are thankful for their hard work and for their efforts in performing this concert.
Nacinovich spent 37 years conducting the Repasz Band. As the Sun-Gazette reported in Thursday’s edition, under Nacinovich’s leadership the Repasz Band played at the 150th anniversary of General Robert E. Lee’s surrender to General Ulysses S. Grant. One hundred and fifty years earlier the Williamsport-based Repasz Band played at the actual surrender.
For this reason, “Ashokan Farewell,” from the film “Gettysburg,” was among the selected works played Saturday. But the entire setlist was carefully curated to reflect the life, passions and sense of service of Albert J. Nacinovich.
“Each work was selected to represent a special part of Al’s life,” Repasz Band conductor Jeff Dent told the Sun-Gazette.
The Repasz Band’s summer schedule continues Wednesday night for a Flag Day program at Pennsylvania College of Technology. The band will also perform in the Little League Grand Slam Parade in August — also fitting when we reflect on the contributions to our city’s history culture both the Repasz Band and Little League have made.
