Shirley M. Powers
Shirley M. Powers, 88, of Lewistown, was gently welcomed into the arms of her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, in the comfort of her home.
Born on April 24, 1937, she was the beloved daughter of the late David and Carrie (Yoder) Yoder. In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her first husband, Lewis Rapp, and her second husband, Ralph Powers; her brothers, Robert, Melvin, and Earl Yoder; and her sister, Emma Glick.
She leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish her memory: her children, Theresa Deardoff, of Lewistown, Wanda Lauver and her husband, Jerry, of Mifflintown, Bonnie Millary and her husband, David, of Dillsburg, and Lewis Rapp and his wife, Bridget, of Lewistown. She was a proud and devoted grandmother to Derek Lauver and his wife Hannah, Destinee Varner and her husband Jonas, Thomas Millary and his wife Mariana, Nathan Millary, Rachel Millary and her partner, Lynsey Brewer, and Toby and Troy Rapp. Her legacy continues through her treasured great-grandchildren, Dawson and Emery Varner, Goldie Lauver, Macrina Millary, and Pippa Millary. She is also survived by her sister, Darlis Strawser and her husband, Merv, of McAlisterville.
Shirley was a faithful member of Evangel Baptist Church in Lewistown, where she quietly shared her love and kindness with others. She will be especially remembered for her thoughtful ministry of sending cards to family and friends for every occasionäsmall gestures that meant so much to so many. Shirley found joy in baking, especially her pies and cookies, which she lovingly shared with those around her. She also enjoyed camping, reading, and caring for her beloved animals.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at Evangel Baptist Church, 375 W. 5th Street, Lewistown, with Pastor Justin Whitenight officiating. A viewing will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
Interment will follow at Locust Run Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Shirley’s memory may be made to Geisinger Hospice, 106 Derry Heights Blvd., Suite 302, Lewistown, PA 17044.
