Judith ‘Judi’ Marie Demskie Bubb

With a heart that loved Jesus and others deeply, Judith “Judi” Marie Demskie Bubb, 79, passed away after an extended illness on March 13, 2026 at her home in Reedsville. Born on Feb. 23, 1947 and born again in Christ on Aug. 15, 1976, Judi was the daughter of Helen Burkholder Hunt and stepfather Melvin R. Hunt.

Judi is preceded in death by her mother and stepfather, as well as her brother, Neal Demskie and brother-in-law Charles “Bob” Mowery. In addition, she was preceded in death by two beautiful and loved infant children, a daughter Maura Theresa Bubb in August of 1968, and a son, Dwyer Reed Bubb in June of 1972, in addition to three unborn children. Judi is now rejoicing as she is reunited with them in heaven.

Judi is survived by her husband, Hobart “Butch” Bubb, whom she married on Nov. 25, 1967, her sister Traceye E. Mowery, of Reedsville and her stepbrother, Dennis Hunt, of Milroy.

She attended Sacred Heart Catholic School and graduated from Kishacoquillas High School in 1965. Understanding her gifts for working with children as a young person, she was recognized in high school as an aspiring educator and attended college to become a teacher. She was inspired to take this path because of a favorite and adored teacher she had in elementary school, Sister Maura Theresa. Judi loved caring for children, bringing her sweet laughter, gentle loving-kindness, faithful wisdom and thoughtful encouragement to each little one. She shared the precious message of Jesus with hundreds of children throughout her life.

Judi was happily married to her beloved husband, Hobart “Butch” Bubb, for 58 years. Together they built a life and legacy grounded in love, faith and generosity. Both are gifted with the ability to craft, create and build, often gifting thoughtful items to family members and friends.

Alongside Butch, she served as a House Parent at Milton Hershey School for 16 years, helping guide and nurture many precious, young lives. Known as “Mom” by those in her home, she treasured her Milton Hershey memories and thought of those young people often throughout her remaining years. Prior to working at Milton Hershey School, Judi worked at Lewistown Hospital for 10 years.

She also served her local community through church service at Reedsville Christian Missionary Alliance and Kish Valley Grace Brethren. She volunteered for The Fresh Air Fund, helping bring inner-city children to experience life in the countryside and connecting them with volunteer host families. Judi and Butch often opened their own home, forming lasting bonds, including lifelong friendships with Ervin and Sherry and many others.

Judi loved nature, especially wildflowers, and spending time at the beach. Although she frequented many different beaches, including some in Delaware and New Jersey, Kiawah Beach, and Myrtle Beach, her absolute favorite was the beach at Greenwood Furnace.

She had a unique knack for knowing when someone needed encouragement and was always ready to serve. She enjoyed sharing her stories and her amazing sense of humor, often laughing at herself and with others. Her smile and laughter brightened the world.

Judi lived in Mifflin County for most of her life and she valued her roots and lifelong friendships. She enjoyed attending Sacred Heart and Kishacoquillas High School luncheons with her childhood classmates.

A devout believer in Christ, Judi lived out her faith each day. Even as her time drew near, she comforted and encouraged those who visited her by reminding them she would see them again in heaven.

She considered her family her greatest blessing. Judi loved her siblings very much. She spent time with and loved her nieces and nephews often hosting sleepovers and cousin time. She was particularly close with her sister and was always grateful for sharing life’s adventures with her and her three girls. She shared a deeply-rooted relationship with her nieces, Marihelen Hower, Melanie Calender and Melissa Zook and adored the title she coined, “Beautiful Aunt Judi”. She also loved attending the various events of her great-nieces and great nephews. She served as a cheerleader in all things for Corey, Destinee, Thatcher, Easton, Jude, Dema, Bronn, Grey and Prima.

Judi’s life was marked by faithful service to God, an amazing marriage to her “Bubba”, a sweet love for family and friends, and a powerful heart for helping others. She leaves behind a beautiful legacy of kindness and the lasting positive impact she made in the lives of so many. She will be thought of when the sun shines, when the wildflowers bloom, when a child laughs, when someone sings “The Ants Go Marching”, or when something divine happens. While she will be greatly missed, her family and friends hold on to the promise she often shared – in Christ this is not goodbye, but simply, until we meet again.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Judi is scheduled for Saturday, March 28, 2026 at Kish Valley Grace Brethren Church, 99 Taylor Drive, Reedsville, PA 17084 with Pastor Luke Shinskie and Pastor Doug Sabin officiating. Family will receive visitors beginning at 10 a.m. and the celebration of life will start at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, Judi requested memorial donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital and she asks that you take time to visit and encourage someone in need.

Arrangements are under the care of Hoenstine Funeral Home, 75 Logan St., Lewistown.
