David R. Spicher

David R. Spicher, 91, of Belleville, passed away on Thursday, March, 26, 2026 at Valley View Haven Nursing Home.

Born on April 11, 1934, in Belleville, he was the son of the late Jonas and Rachel (Yoder) Spicher. He was preceded in death by his step-mother Bertha (Peachey) Spicher Sharp, a daughter-in-law Stacey (Kauffman) Spicher, brothers Kore Spicher and John Spicher, as well as a sister Lomie Yoder.

On March 22, 1958, he married Effie (Yoder) Spicher, who survives. Dave and Effie celebrated 68 years of marriage this past week.

Surviving are children: Janette Petersheim and husband Sam of Sarasota, Fla., Jolene Byler and husband Jeff, Suzanne Byler and husband Elwood, Keith Spicher and wife Gina, and Kent Spicher, all of Belleville; 11 grandchildren: Kristin (Seth) Stutzman, Carson (Elyse) Petersheim, Jackie Byler, Joshua (Megan) Byler, Lauren (Trevor) Weaver, Allison (Chase) Peachey, Aaron (Tara) Spicher, Morgan (Simon) Foote, Meredith (Noah) Hop, Paige (Austin) Byler, and Kelsey Spicher; and 23 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are siblings Rachel Hershberger (Lee) of Sarasota, Fla., Thomas Spicher (Sharon) of McAlevy’s Fort, brother-in-law Charles Yoder of Flint, Mich., and sister-in-law Virginia Spicher of Lancaster.

David, along with his wife and family, owned and operated Kish View Dairy Farm for 38 years. He enjoyed attending Holstein sales, conventions, and shows. He was a member of various State and National Holstein organizations and served as a Director for Select Sire Power for 20 years. He and Effie hosted numerous meetings at the farm. Dave valued the lifelong friendships he made with others involved in the dairy industry.

He was a member of Maple Grove Mennonite Church, where he served on the Mission and Finance committees. He also served on the Union Township Planning Commission.

In his later years, Dave most enjoyed participating with Effie in the gatherings of their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He loved the interactions with his family, which brought him great joy.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday March 31, 2026, at Maple Grove Mennonite Church. His family will receive friends, and a viewing will be held from 6 to 8 pm Monday, March 30, 2026, at Maple Grove Mennonite Church. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family at Allensville Mennonite Cemetary.

Dave’s family would like to thank the staff at Valley View Haven and at Hospice 365 for the excellent, compassionate care he received.
