Audrienne Louise (Northcraft) Whitsel
Audrienne Louise (Northcraft) Whitsel of Mifflintown, passed away at 9:45 p.m. on the first day of spring, Friday, March 20, 2026, at the Wynwood House of Centre Hall.
Born to her late parents Theodore Tilghman and Willa Pearl (Lehman) Northcraft on Dec. 10, 1934, she grew up on a farm in the small village of Northcraft, Fulton Co. that was named for her relatives.
In addition to the lessons a farm life provides, she began her schooling in a one room school house in Barnes Gap and then graduated from Warfordsburg High School in 1952.
She then attended Shippensburg State Teachers College where she met the love of her life and graduated with a degree in education in 1956.
On Aug. 10, 1957, she was wedded to Donald Reed Whitsel who preceded her in death in 2022 after 65 years of marriage filled with laughter and love.
Audy taught elementary school including art and science and gave birth to three children in three different decades. After the birth of her third child, she became a substitute teacher for the Tuscarora Intermediate Unit helping children with special needs.
Along with her husband, she was a long time active member of the Aldersgate United Methodist Church of Mifflintown.
She generously gave to friends and family and filled her own home with the blankets, scarves and other items she would knit, crochet or quilt.
She enjoyed watching football, baseball and basketball, especially the Chicago Bulls during their Championship Seasons with Dennis Rodman on the team.
She loved to garden and grow flowers and watch the birds.
Surviving are her children, Larry T. Whitsel and his wife, Joan of Herman, Maine, Nanette W. Stake and her husband, James, of Lewistown, Jon F. Whitsel and his wife, Melissa, of Centre Hall, four grandchildren, Jennifer M. Stratton and her husband, Scott, Theodore J. Stake and his wife, Kristi, Zachary F. Whitsel, Ashley A. Whitsel and four great grandchildren, Max Bustamante, Kolton Stake, Bennett Stratton and Gage Dobson.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 26, 2026, from the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown with the Pastor Mindy Petrovcic officiating. Interment will follow in the Union Memorial Gardens, Mifflintown.
Viewing will be held from 10 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home until the time of service.
The family of Audrienne Whitsel would like to thank both the staffs of the Mount Nittany Center for Wound Care and Wynwood House of Centre Hall for the compassionate care they provided during the later years of her life.
