Sue Grassmyer
Sue Grassmyer, 83, passed away peacefully at her home in Fort Myers, Florida on Jan. 10, 2026.
Sue was born on Feb. 16, 1942, in McVeytown. She was the daughter of the later Albert and Frances Clark. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Donald “Peachy” Grassmyer and her brother Ned Clark.
She is survived by her sister, Paula Brower (Gwin), her three daughters, Lisa Barnes (Sean), Lori Grassmyer and Leslie Grassmyer (Angelo); four grandchildren, Brendan Barnes (Rachel), Allison McGinley (Austin), Erin Barnes (Chase) and Kevin Barnes (Ellie); her brother-in-law, Johnny Grassmyer, her sister-in-law, Linda Ritter (Butch); and several nieces and nephews who lovingly knew her as “Aunt Sue.”
Sue spent her childhood and much of her adult life in McVeytown, where she formed lifelong friendships and enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a graduate of Rothrock High School and dedicated nearly 30 years of service to the United States Postal Service.
Before moving to Florida, Sue was an active member of the McVeytown United Methodist Church and the McVeytown Presbyterian Church.
A 22-year lung cancer survivor, she lived each day guided by her enduring belief: “There is always, always, always something to be grateful for.”
In 2016, Sue and Peachy moved to Fort Myers. She joined the Cypress Lake United Methodist Church where she volunteered for several years at the food pantry and was also a member of the Fort Myers Moose Lodge.
Sue found joy in simple pleasures – daily walks with friends, Maple Garden happy hours, formal nights enjoying Frank Torino’s music and friendly games of Mexican Train and Rummikub. Sue loved playing her piano, but rarely for an audience. She was also well known for her love of cleaning and keeping an immaculate house.
Sue was a devoted wife, loving sister, mother, aunt, and a kind friend to many. Her greatest joy was her role as “Gram,” a title she relished and held close to her heart.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
